At my place of employment ,we lost a daycamper very suddenly. An OES not quite 2 years old. I think It might have been a heart attack. Does the breed have a history of heart disease? |
There are congenital heart diseases that most good breeders check for. There are also some cases with heart malformations that are just random birth defects. If that was the case a vet would have spotted it early and the owner should have known.
If the dog was from a backyard breeder or puppy mill, who knows? I can't remember the exact heart problem that is watched for in OES. Through testing and careful breeding that has been really well taken care of and is not as prevelant anymore. The person who may be able to help you more would be Ann Lapp who is the health chairperson of the OESCA her e-mail is pettiboneoes@aol.com |
Thank you for your responses. It does explain what happened a little. I found out that our daycamp charge was in fact a puppy mill dog, and had been seen by a vet regularly and was scheduled for knee surgery next month. We are just devastated by his sudden demise. |
