I DON'T REALLY HAVE MUCH ADVICE, BUT I DO KNOW JUST BEING AROUND PEOPLE A LOT WILL HELP. AS FAR AS OTHER DOGS I AMAT A TOTAL LOSS FOR THAT. YOU SEEM TO HAVE A WEIRD SITUATION AND I AM SORRY FOR THAT, HOWEVER YOU DOG IS REALLY CUTE AND I LIKE THE PHOTO. HOPEFULLY OTHERS WILL HAVE SOME GOOD ADVICE I JUST WANTED TO SAY HI AND WELCOME! |
Perhaps there are some obedience classes in your area. This would be a place where other dogs and dog friendly people are. I'm not sure if that kind of thing is offered though. |
It's hard when you live in a non dog friendly society. Shaggy does need socialisation as it is an important part of their developement as youngsters. I really have no advice to share just hope you meet some friendly dog loving people that shaggy can wiggle his butt at and win them over. Is there anysort of dog park near you that you can take shaggy too? Any friends with dogs that you can invite over and let shaggy socialise with and play with? |
There are no dog parks We were living in the city and every night there was a gathering for dogs which was great for Shaggy but we moved about a month ago into a house with a garden. People are more private here. There are a lot of dogs but just not very socialiable. However, there's a great german shep that shaggy visit every day for a little bit. But he's fenced in so they kind of play and nip at each other through the fence.
I'm not sure of obedience classes here. It's not a common thing. Most dogs aren't trained, which is another gripe I have here. It always amazes people when I tell Shaggy to sit on command and he does! Also, we speak to him in English not Chinese, so any classes that exists wouldn't really work, for mulitple reasons but mainly we don't want Shaggy to get dog-napped (it's common here). I just never had a dog before and I do worry about if he is getting enough time alone, or too much time with me, or the effects of not having enough playtime with other dogs. He is a great dog and super curious and friendly when we have guests over. He gets super excited when someone new comes cause he just wants love and attention. I don't think he ever met anyone or dogs or cats that he doesn't want to play with. It's just the over excitement tends to overwhelm people here. I'm hoping that he'll calm down more when he gets to 1 year old. Thanks for the advice though. I really appreciate it. I'm planning to put some pictures up soon but I kind of need to download it from the camera! |
Have you introduced yourself to the german shepherd owners? Make playdates for the dogs, and your first visit should have both you and the neighbours present.
Then if they are busy offer to babysit the dog and let them have fun together. When you are done take him home. You can talk to your vet and maybe post an ad in the office...looking for puppy near Shaggy's age and size to play once/twice a week. |
I don't know if this can help your situation with shaggy or not, but there is a member on this forum "Arthur" that posted a chinese link for a forum for OES in China. Maybe someone on that forum has a doggie near you that you might be able to have playdates with.
Link http://www.chinapet.net/bbs/viewforum.php?f=129 Look forward to seeing pictures of shaggy too |
Good thinking, Lisa. I was trying to remember as I was reading through this post who else had posted from China. Hopefully, this link will help.
Also, I was going to ask about the possibility of playdates with Shaggy's littermaters? Do any of them live near you? |
