Allie getting fixed, Opinions on bringing her home?

Hey everyone..Allie goes tomorrow morning to get spayed, I want to bring her home at the end of the day. The Vet suggests she stay the night, even though no one is there at night! I dont feel good about this. I feel I can keep her calm here, put her in the crate early for bed if need be. Any advice? Did you guys leave your babies over night?? Or take home?

We brought our boys home. I would think the reason to leave them at the vet would be so that they are supervised during that time. It makes me uneasy to think she'd be recovering alone. What if she had a reaction to the anesthesia?
I think you have a good plan in place to bring her home after the surgery.
We left Barney overnight, but he was supervised. I liked that he would be in better hands than mine if something happened. But I agree, I'd be worried if she was there by herself all night. Can you pick her up at the very last second the vet is open? That way you keep her there as long as possible?
That is what I am hoping to do, will call the vet right now...It is a great/reputable Vet in town..In fact, a little more expensive then most. But I have always used them, love the Doc we see. So I was sort of surprised when she said Allie should stay, but that no one would be there during the night. I am assuming they stick around for cleaning, tending to animals for a few hours after they close, but must leave around 7:00pm?.
I brought Rags home just hours after being spayed.
Just make sure you get extra pain killers for her.
My vet keeps the females overnite, BUT she lives onsite, closes at 9:00pm and goes back to do rounds at 11:00pm. Then is there at 7:30 am.

There was an article I read last year about an unsupervised spayed female getting itchy and anxious during the evening. She ripped open her stitches suring the nite and bled to death. Scared the daylights out of me!
If no one is going to be there all night, I'd bring her home with me. I don't like them staying unless they're supervised. :?
Emmie and Bella both came home hours after being spayed and did fine. They slept most of the day. They were a little groggy, so we had to watch them when they walked up and down the stairs to go outside.
Day 2 they wanted to run and play. We had to keep Emmie somewhat sedated. She is my wild child and the surgery didn't seem to bother her. The morning of the 2nd day she jumped up on my bed (it was the first time she ever jumped on my bed and it is a high jump). She opened up her stitches and had to go back in.....that is why they kept her sedated, and even that was only good for a long nap! I wanted them to keep her for a week!!!
Good luck,
Laurie
Laurie and everyone else, thanks so much for making me feel better about my decision...If she was going to be supervised or at least checked in on a few times, I would probably have her stay! But I know her, she is nosy and a little skittish with new sounds..I think she would be very scared and nervous if other animals are penned up around her and no people to see
And I would assume she will get no pain medication during the night, so better to be with me where I can administer something! I hope they give me extra for her!
Barney, Yes, the Vet is open till 5:00, so I will get her then. The gal on the phone this morning is still trying to get me to leave her, but said I can speak to the Doc after, if all went well I just have to sign papers that say they are not responsible if something happens, which makes sense .. So I will wait till 4:55 to get her!
Amazing how this is worrying my husband and I!! We sure do act like she is our baby!
Allie was spayed today and came home! They still tried to talk me into leaving her, but being no one would be there after 7:00pm, until morning and the Doc said everything went well, we picked her up at 5:00. She has thrown up 2 times since we have been home, which makes me wonder, poor girl would of had to sit in it, if she had stayed the night! We are just glad she is here. Very groggy, but is keeping very calm...
I'm glad she is home and it is over!
I always feel so guilty after the surgery.
Hope she stays nice and calm and heals very quickly :D
I think you made a very wise decision by bringing your baby home...

there is no way I would of left my boys overnight unless someone was there with them.

Hope she feels better soon and is back to her bouncy self in no tme.
Sending sheepie hugs for Allie and am sure she will be back to her wiggleist self in no time. :D I would of done the same thing too, bring her home if no one in attendance overnight.

Glad all went well. :D
I hope Allie is feeling better. I'm sure she is happier to recover at home.

The vomiting could have been from the car ride home after the anesthesia. A similar thing happens alot with people. They will be fine in PACU (recovery), then get nauseous/vomit from the cart ride to their room. After an hour or so they are fine again.

Give Allie a big puppy kiss from Chewie!
How's Allie feeling?
Thanks for asking about her!
This morning Allie is wanting to play , getting into things and go for her usual 20 minute walk! She is back! I took her for a slow stroll to the corner and you can tell she is very confused! Wants to go the whole block.... The incision looks great, still no red , no swelling..It is real hard to keep her from jumping on the bed and the couch. My big worry is later today I have my Brother-in-law and family coming to stay the night. The kids are 3 and 5! They love Allie and she loves them. So I really need to try and keep her calm. I should say, keep the kids calm, they have alot of energy!
