Showing In Short Coat

First of all, I think it would be great if we could show shaved down so people can see what the dog really looks like.... however, it is a coated breed, the coat of course is part of the standard and a dog cannot really be judged without it so that wouldn't really make sense.

I am trying to decide how soon I can get Sky back in the ring. She was shaved down a few months ago and now has almost 4 inches of coat. I have been considering entering her in some October and November shows anyway. I don't know if I should though. Her coat is excellent, just not very long yet. LOL By October she should have 4 1/2 to 5 inches of coat, and I have seen dogs in the ring with less.

Opinions?

I know around here a good rule of thumb is a year's worth of coat but I decided to enter just to get him used to the ring with 10 months of coat in the Philly KC show and he won Reserve Winners at a major. Here's a pic so you can see the length.

Personally, I don't think you'll get a championship with 4 months of coat, but I don't think you'll get excused either, plus it will be good to get Sky used to the ring. Plus you can stack your own dogs for points!
Depends on her age and class she is entered into. So if in a younger class then go for it, she would not look out of place and be good for her too as been awhile since she has been shown.

Different if she was in open classes with full coated mature OES so nothing stopping you now in a few months time with sky getting back into the showring. :D
I have seen an OES at a specialty in 2 iches of coat win a class........ I think you have to know the judges preferences and if they will brave enough to put up a short coat! But then again it depends upon the quality of the dog along with it too!

How's Panda? How's her coat coming along??
Panda's coat is awesome for the most part...lol... but as you know, she chewed her leg coat, again. It's been almost 3 months since she did it last time, but I went back to work, and I think it will take her a bit to adjust to me not being home all the time. I'm not going to stress over it this time, it will grow  I'm going to try some other things this time, and hopefully her front leg coat will be grown in enough to show her by late October, or possibly November. I'm aiming for show in Mississauga, Ontario that is November 24,25,26 with Panda.
Willowsprite: I know very little (nothing) about showing, but here is a picture I took at the Kitchener Kennel Club Dog show earlier this year. The 2nd dog has quite a short coat and did okay (I think - I spent the whole weekend not understanding what was going on). I like the way it looks, because it really shows off how muscular the hindquarters are.

P.S. You can get a better look at the haircut if you click on the photo to enlarge in my photo albumn.
Boy that coat is brownish comapred to the full-coated dog, isn't it!
I've always felt every dog gain some points, maybe even a major, in short court. Hard to hide faults. Yes, I know a good judge will feel problems. I don't think the majority should be in short coat though, maybe just a % .

I agree, show in shorter coat, the experience valuable....of course those who thrive on gossip will probably go around, "that dog/bitch will never have a good coat." Then come back and blow their socks off

That's just because he is a puppy, it was sunburnt puppy coat that had been trimmed off.... it's hot in Brazil
