At first thought, I automatically want my computer, but really, what good would it be if there was no internet? Still useful, but I don't think I would choose it. I think I would want a camera. |

A supermarket?
But seriously... A modern firearm with ammunition. Hands down. |
indoor plumbing with HOT water |
Darcy wrote: indoor plumbing with HOT water You don't even have that now! |
i know which makes me realize how much I miss it and have taken it for granted......
A/C would be my second choice! |
a camera is a great idea!
or some of my music with a player thanks stacey |
I was going to say Air Conditioner but there wasn't electricity 200 years ago to run it so....
Modern clothes because I can't imagine running around in this heat with no AC and having to wear long sleeves, dresses to the ground and petticoats. |
The whole bathroom, with bath, shower and toilet.
No an outdoors girl at all Don't fancy digging a hole somewhere in the wilds of yester years. |

But seriously... A modern firearm with ammunition. Hands down. Why a modern firearm? There were firearms 200 years ago... maybe not great, but they did the trick. Just curious as to your choice. I personally would not choose anything that already exists because you, with your modern knowledge, can improve upon existing technologies with the tools at hand. |
I am with Lisa. I definitely need to take my hot baths. |
I love my hot baths too... but again, they had tubs, and ways of heating water, though not as fast or conveniently... so is that something you would really want above anything else? |
Deodorant! I would be so popular with the men. |

Which though? Antibiotics can be made, most medicines can be made from plants.... |

Willowsprite wrote: Anonymous wrote: Medicine. Which though? Antibiotics can be made, most medicines can be made from plants.... Yeah sure. . . but that's getting a bit specific for this little exercise. Which plants will you use to make photo paper or develop your photos? |
Ooops knew I would forget something always do when travelling.
Yep that is sooooo important too, no leaves for me. Did see that on Oprah when she and gail went to that colony reality show, they did not last long either Ahhh the joys of modern life |
I'd bring a time machine and get back to my normal time. Screw no electricity or TV! |
Well.............. Close your eyes guys. I'm assuming I'd be young enough to need em', so my choice would be "tampons".
If I'd be the same age as I am now, I'd take a SUV that runs on corn fuel (ethanol?). |
It had better be an older model without computers and such! Replacement parts aren't available for another 198 years |
As long as I don't have to feed it or brush it out, I'll take it.
Its not really modern, maybe still in a different form, but I'd probably just take money. It was worth more then. So I'd have more than I'd need. What a pleasant thought. |

I'll bring the toilet paper!!! Add me to the bathroom list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even stand Portapotties!!! A couple weekends ago we worked at a fund raiser for the fire department, an all weekend affair. I drove the 2 miles home to use MY BATHROOM rather than use the rent a johns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No hole digging for this sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Firstly, I would not want to live 200 years ago as a woman. No Way.
I would be in major trouble in no time at all, as a woman. If I had to go as a woman, tampons or pads. I think I could handle the rest. Of course if I had lived 200 years ago and gotten pregnant, I'd have died anyway. Yet another reason to not want to go as a woman. How about an mp3 player with unlimited battery life and thousands of songs.....they'd hang me as a lunatic I just know it. Shellie |
Shellie wrote: Firstly, I would not want to live 200 years ago as a woman. No Way.
I agree with Shellie. There have been very few good eras and places to be a woman. We're lucky we live where and when we do. I would take gold, and lots of it. That's not really a modern amenity but it's would allow me to survive without changing my personality too much. Then I'd also want to be very careful about where I landed. Are we assuming 200 years ago in the same place we live now? I'd be willing to take a chance on AZ in 1800. Dealing with the heat, critters and Wild West mentality would be tough, but probably easier to survive than the lands of my ancestors. |
Cool question!
I would bring my GLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
I hope my glasses would be on my face when I time traveled! I am too blind to do without.
Otherwise, I would take gold/silver/diamonds or something similar to use as money to buy the conveniences I want. I can rough it pretty well for a female, so I would like the money to make life easier and more safe. |
Some great answers!
Now I'm not so sure about my firearms "hands down!" LOL My glasses.... wow.... But Ben Franklin had glasses and they knew how to make lenses, so on third thoguht... I'll use the contemporary lenses and save my wish for something else. Antibiotics! Wow that's a great one. If I had to narrow to one; Pennicillin I guess? Or maybe not... I can leave bread out to get moldy, but would I know which mold was the right one? Would I know how to turn it into a safe medicine and in safe and effective dosages? Would I be ruining the world for the future with antibiotic-resistant diseases? I need to think more about this! |
On second thought, if I could only take one thing it would have to be my husband. That way I'd get to take my son too.
I'd use him as a wagon. He'd carry the money, guns, ammo, glasses, false teeth, tampons, etc...... He'd look like one of those wagons headin' out west for the gold rush. Guess thats cheatin' a bit. |
They had microscopes 200 years ago, so if you knew what to look for, you could know which molds were the ones you needed.....
I keep going over this in my mind, and even though I'd love to take a camera, obviously not the most useful thing.... I'm really not sure what the single most useful thing I could take would be, that I couldn't already have, or make. |
