Child Pornography
about a month ago... police came to the barracks to conviscate this 19 yo males computer. we find out later that he possible belonged in this ring of those receiving child pornography in his email. background (prior to police coming): 19 yo soldier who looks a lot younger than his age. i've met him and he looks so sweet and shy. he's been in trouble with his unit (company) for a lot of random things. Soldiers were complaining he doesn't shower. Like... he would go so long, he could be smelt when he walked in a room. So he got in trouble for that and my husband made him go to someone every morning and report that he's taken a shower. Time goes by. People report he stinks again. they find out he was showering without soap. he says he doesn't have money for it. People go out and buy him soap and shampoo, so there are NO EXCUSES. This is just to give you a little feel for who he is.... We find out his father is in prison, and probably has been for much of his life. His peers didn't tell us everything, but he's basically had a VERY hard life. Speed up to present: After his computer was taken, he still had to stay in his unit. HOW he could face his peers is beyond me. We don't live in the barracks, so we don't know what everyone said to him. He basically walked around pissed that his comptuer was taken and of course said he was innocent. I just know men can be brutal. I worried about him so much because someone with his background has to have so many mental issues. My husband's unit sent him to mental health. I was so worried he'd commit suicide. Last week, we get a call that this kid is broke again. After possibly being convicted of possession of child pornography... where does he go on his weekends? He had been spending ALL of his money taking a cab to the strip clubs here and spending it on the girls there. Tonight, he was just on the news. In prison clothes. 12 counts of having pictures of a minor. She was 12. The person who raped her was 71... living here in Anchorage/Eagle River. I don't know how someone who had the chance to get out of his troubled life ...could screw it up so much. When he scored better than everyone at the firing range a few months ago, everyone knew the importance of patting him on the back. We didn't need to know "all this" to know he needs attn. Isn't that twisted that I feel sorry for the guy? I just don't get it. Maybe because I kinda know him. I don't know why he couldn't stick to looking at those "barely legal" sites (where girls ARE over 18 but look younger). Why he could think he could get away with searching the web for younger children. DOESN'T HE WATCH DATELINE?!!! Anyway, his unit was hoping the girl he was looking at was 16 and not some baby/young kid. It's all not good... we know, but we knew this was coming a month before he actually got "arrested" tonight, so there's been a lot of talk. |

| That IS really sad. You'd think that with all the support that he seemed to be getting he'd at least have tried to rise out of his previous life. But maybe where he came from, this WAS better, who knows. Poor kid, I hope he gets help. |
| It's not crazy that yo feel sorry for him, I feel sorry for him. What a wretched life he must have had that has made him who he is. Unfortunately as much as I believe in second chances studies show that the odds are his problems are not fixable and he is in for a life time of hurt.
So the question becomes what do you do with a person like that? Certianly his future "victims" deserve protection but obviously he has been a victim of something pretty terrible to wind up where he is....... So sad. |
