I have some info to share with you. Since I really don't know what I'm doing with this picnic thing, I think maybe for our outting, I've found a solution. Chery Carter is going to be hosting trials (for all breeds) on Oct 9th and 10th at Van Patton Woods in Wadworth, Illinois. Its a beautiful facility. I spoke with her and asked if we could ride on their coattails and have our picnic there since they have a few pavilions already reserved. She said that would be fine. Now, I don't know how many to expect, I'm thinking it may end up just Pirate and me (whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)...but hope not . She knows of a couple dog friendly hotel/motels in the area, and we could actually make a weekend out of it, if anyone is interested...and coming a long distance. This is really all I have so far. I NEED some imput from all of you, so please let me know! Email me off list, debcram@yahoo.com (I have to admit, I'm pretty excited about this!) |

If you ask nicely, maybe Chad (IluvmyOES) will share with you his experience in getting a new sheepie gathering put together? |
Hi Ron, I have talked to Chad (as sweetly as possible) and he is giving me invaluable information. In fact, he's the one that suggested I post the picnic info here! Thanks Chad!!! |
I just looked up how far the picnic would be from me and that is a long 6 and 1/2 hours from me Wish I could make it but I doubt it unless I can talk my hubby into visiting his brother in Chicago in October, unlikely. That is also at the start of swim season, how depressing. I think I may have to look for some OES buddies in St. Louis |
walter and i will definitely be there!! keep us updated
and if theres anything i can do to help just let me know |
Hi Deb!
I just did a MapQuest search and found that I am 8 1/2 hours away. However, if you could let me know of some pet friendly hotels, I would LOVE to try to make it with Maggy! I'm always up for a road trip and a picnic! Gracie ** I'm presuming it's B.Y.O.B? "Bring Your Own Ball!" |
I am in Rockford, which is not far at all, so we would definitely be there! Let us know the details! |
Hello, I'm new here--been lurking a long time though. I'm in the NW Chicago suburbs and would love to come to the picnic even though I don't have a sheepie. Yet. I will someday. I live in an apartment and am gone all day at work so it wouldn't be fair to the dog. But could I come to picnic and play with the puppies???? Please???? LOL Paula |
YIPPEE! ILLINOIS SHEEPIE LOVERS!!! Hi Paula and Shulgirl! The picnic will be October 9 & 10 in Wadsworth, Il. Its about 10 minutes south of the Wisc border. Email me, and I will send you all the details I have: debcram@yahoo.com Paula, even though you are "sheepie-less" for now, we'd love to have to you. You can be the official sheepie Aunt! Shulgirl...I got my first sheepie in Rockford!!! With the NEOESR picnic buzz and hearing all the fun they had, I'm getting more and more excited by the minute for ours! Since it's my first, it certainly will not be on the scale of their, but we have to start somewhere! Can't wait to hear from both of you...and anyone else interested in the information. |
Too far for me, though I would love to go.... |
10 miles south of the WI border... You MUST know "Mars Cheese Castle (and Gallery of Art)" in Kenosha...? |
Sigh I'm on the other side of the country or else I'd pack up the boys and head to your picnic. I really wish you lots of success and the best of luck! You've got a great idea and good for you for stepping up and trying this! |
Hello,
I told my husband where and when the picnic was and he is really hopeful that we can make it. We are a ways down here in central Oklahoma, but a picnic of sheepies just sounds like a blast to all of us. I know Jack and Annabelle will be up for it. I guess as it comes closer I will keep you updated as to whether we can for sure go. I would love to know where to stay that is dog friendly. Will younger kids, a 4 and a 6 year old be a problem being there, or do most people leave their kids at home? Thanks, Stormi, Jack, and Annabellle |
Hi all! Oh, stop whining! Chicago isn't all that far! Just get in the car and DRIVE (haha). Wish you could all come. Stormi: I went to OU, about a million years ago! And Ron...I'm only about 10 minutes from Kenosha. How the heck do you know Kenosha? BTW...my all time favorite restaurant is Legals. I can't wait to get back to Boston! If any of you do know sheepie owners in this area, or anyone willing to take the trip, please have them contact me. The midwest is magnificent in the fall! SIDEBAR---Ron I can't get my avator small enough to post here WHAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! |
Well.....,
When Joan, Jake and I took our second motorhome trip, we went west. We decided a good goal for the two-week trip would be to "stop by Wisconsin, and pick up some cheese." On the day we needed to head towards hoem, we were visiting with Linda, Joan's Brother's wife (Joan's brother was a Marine on deployment) in Illinois. We lamented that we weren't going to make our goal, and Linda said "Oh heck, we're about 8 miles from the border, and I know the PERFECT place to meet your goal. Let's go" So off we went and into Kenosha, and after a U turn via interchange ramps, we were at "Mars Cheese Castle (and Gallery of Art)". Perfect. (BTW the place is shaped like a castle, and the owner's name is Mario or "Mar" for short. Schlock art at its "finest". Good cheese, though. Nice 4 year old cheddar. Yum. Also, and hugely coincidental, someone I know has a small stake in a subsidized apartment building called Lakeside Towers there. |
Ron.... A million thanks for Pirate's avator!!!! Ain't he a sweetie-pie? If Joan's brother is 8 miles from Kenosha...he must live very close to me. I'm in Gurnee (home of Great America Theme Park). Next time you travel through, I'll treat you , Joan and Jake to real Wisconsin brats at the Brat Stop in Kenosha. Yummmm and BURP! Thanks again! |
Deb, your posts crack me up! For all of you who live far away....Amtrak runs into Chicago! Thats alot quicker than driving. Of course, I don't know if they allow dogs, have to check into that. Personally, I can't wait to see a multitude of sheepies running around, I mean, galloping around the park (my sheepie reminds me more of a horse than a dog - thinking of renaming her Trigger). I am looking for more people to go and Deb, I got your email on directions and such, thank you! |
Thanks for telling me about this Paula! I don't always get to all these forums. And Thanks Deb for organizing this.
We are in Berwyn (yes I know Berrrwyn) and this sounds like a lot of fun. I just need to check that we won't be taking our East Coast trip at that time. I'll definately let you know. And I know a couple of other sheepie owners, I'll spread the word. Sue |
Ohhh I wish I could go.... according to mapquest it is almost a 10 hour drive for me. I lived in Chicago for a short time when I was little, all I remember is concrete, and beaches where if you look one way it is beautiful, turn your head though, more concrete. LOL I still have a book from the library there though It is Peter Rabbit.
Since mapquest says 10 hours, it is probably more like 7 or 8, but with puppy stops it would be back up to ten hours. LOL What is the date of it anyway, just in case? |
Sue, That would be great if you could join us! If you'd like more info, email me at: debcram@yahoo.com I'll send you everything I have so far. |
