The rescue worker tells me the former owners had no time for Jack and in order to teach their kids responsibility they gave Jack to a good rescue for a better home. The foster mom said another family wanted to adopt Jack and had a beagle already. During their "trial weekend" their Beagle attacked Jack and bit him on the neck. Anyone have any advice for me on Sunday? The nice thing about this rescue is that they let you do a "trial weekend" after the Rescue worker comes to our house to make sure we're fit parents. I think that if all goes well, the trial weekend will be labor day. I tried uploading the pictures from Petfinder, but they were bmp files that wouldn't work, so here's the link on him. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/dis ... id=6694628 |

He is absolutely adorable! I love the look of a beagle's face, they always look like a puppy. LOL
I had no idea they could have eyes that color, they're beautiful! There is a forum member who is a beagle lover and planned on getting a beagle but ended up gettng an OES. They named her NAB (not a beagle) and then later got another oes and named it JAS (just another sheepdog) |
Aw, he's a cutie pie! |
Beagles can be quite rascally! A friend told me about his that could climb any chain link fence. Up and over and down.
Good luck! |
Oh my...he is sooo cute! I've always loved Beagles. Hopefully, he'll be joining us at SheepieFest! and he and Keira can gossip about the sheepdogs! Congrats! |
He is adorable!
One thing to know about Beagles is they always act like they are hungry. Don't give into this or you'll end up with a very fat Beagle! Very common with the breed. I hope everything goes smoothly. Make sure to give Hendrix lots of attention so he doesn't get too jealous. |
Good to know about the fence, I'll see if the foster mom has a chain linked fence and ask if she's had any break aways. That will something I would defintily test out during the trial weekend.
I have seen a lot of fat beagles, I thought it was just case of lack of excercise and over eating. How do you keep the dogs from eating each others food? |
Oh good luck! He's very cute! I hope everything goes well with him! Are you keeping the name? |
If all goes well, we'll end up changing his name. I kind of like Jack, my dad's name is Jack. But I've seen so many dogs named Jack lately.
My husband Ray is a HUGE Simpsons junkie and has always wanted a beagle named Smithers. He thinks it's a great sidekick name, perfect for Hendrix. I'm still trying to get Ray to stick with a "music theme." I kind of like Woodstock, it's a music name, Jimi Hendrix played at it and it sort of plays off the fact that Snoopy was a Beagle and it his pal was woodstock. I've also thrown out the names Axel, Clapton, Marley, Ringo... etc. Ray told me it's either Smithers or Bonham (which is what he wanted to name Hendrix, but I don't like the name!) John Bonham was the drummer from Led Zepplin. |
Just promise us you won't change Hendrix's name to Mr. Burns!!! (Smithers is very cute!) |
Smithers is very cute and sounds like a beagle name to me.
One thing to think about...would you want to run around your neighborhood yelling "Come Woody" if he got out??? |
Good point... I'm still determined on finding a rock n' roll name... |
Congratulations on your pending adoption! I hope all goes well for you and that Jack is a perfect fit for your home and he & Hendrix hit it off immediately! |
Alright, so Jack wasn't for us. We went out there on Sunday afternoon and things between Jack and Hendrix seemed to be going really well. They were running about the backyard like idiots!
As the playing tappered off Hendrix sort of got the attitude of "I'm done playing I want to hang by the humans." Jack just wouldn't leave him alone! Hendrix would keep turning away from him. Hendrix then grew annoyed and took a couple snaps at him. I know he was just testing his boundries, but I could tell it was an age difference. Hendrix being about a year old was just not having all this energy on him. Now, that wasn't the only problems I had with Jack. The foster mom was telling me that Jack was just testing his boundries and this always happens and I totally understood that. But as the chatting between me and foster mom continued I didn't like what I was hearing. Her version of why the owner gave up Jack was different then the shelter manager. Not a big deal, it was only a little different. But then the foster mom tells me that Jack had a big intestinal problem which was fixed. And then tells me that Jack loves digging and not just holes, but craters. He also eats stones and his own poop. She told me to he chews his toys but to watch out because something in your house is next. She told me he doesn't jump on the couch, but when I came to the door he was sitting on it?! I just didn't feel comfortable with Jack. I could just see Hendrix running around the yard like a mad man and crash he breaks his leg in one of Jacks holes. My friend tells me I pretty much saw a Beagle pup and that's what they do, I guess that breed is not for us. If we had a bigger house we'd be getting another sheepie. Ah well... |
Almost forgot... when we were there they said they'd received 17 applications for Jack so at least I know he'll be getting a forever home pretty soon. |
I'm sorry things didn't work out. But now you know...that's the best part...you took your time and did your homework and visited with him before making a decision.
Sounds like Jack will have his choice of homes! You can love beagles, still, and just not want to live with one. |
Good for you for knowing your limits and setting boundaries. He looks cute enough he will definitely be in a new home soon - one exactly fitted for him! |
