Chummie Update -- Good News!!
Today the doctors confirmed that she is in the midst of a miraculous turn-around that is causing them to question their cancer diagnosis! Apparently, even the atrophy in her shoulder area has reduced -- more muscle tone!! I had been avoiding touching her there for fear it would hurt her but even I can feel the difference. The docs were visibly thrilled by the results of her exam. So now they think maybe she had a freak, extremely rare case of temporary nerve damage and that it is repairing itself. Hooray!! It is not completely confirmed. I have to monitor her situation over the next 6 weeks or so. But they said with cancer, they definitely would not be seeing this kind of improvement and that the improvement I had been seeing is real. The news was not all good though. They did confirm that she is having orthapedic type trouble in her hips causing pain and so they have prescribed a couple of additional measures that should help. They said an over-the-counter amino acid D-L phenylalinine will help increase her tolerance for pain and they recommended that I restart the adequan injections she had been getting last year. Adequan is a form of liquid, injectable glucosamine. They are going to let me administer the shot, which will be alot more convenient. Previously, I had to go to the vet's office for it. Yay Chum!!  |

I'm SO happy to hear this wonderful news!!  I was just thinking about Chum again this morning. How fantastic this is!! Give that precious girl a big hug and kiss from me please!! 
Reminds me of my first sheepie, Buford, who developed a kind of lockjaw when he was 8. The vet gave him virtually no chance of recovery and wanted us to put him down. We refused and begged him to try something, ANYTHING to help him - what did we have to lose? After MASSIVE doses of prednisone, he also miraculously recovered and lived almost another 8 years! So here's hoping that holds true for Chum as well!! Oh happy day!!    |

| Thanks everyone! It has been such a rollercoaster. When people would ask how she was doing, I'd think -- well, actually quite well. I thought she was hanging in there, good spirits, etc. It is just terrific to have it confirmed that she is actually improving. Who knows what the future will bring, but this is such a gift right now. And everyone at the park is commenting on how happy and young Chummie looks! |
