On our trip we made several stops at Cracker Barrel. We ordered "take out" meals but ate them on the front porch in the rocking chairs. All Cracker Barrels have checker boards set up by the rocking chairs which we used for our table (I've never actually seen anyone playing checkers). We always sat at the far end of the porch so that we would not bother any patrons who were not as enthusiastic about people traveling with their pets as we but people were invariably very friendly. Ty was well behaved and had a bowl of fresh water and treats or his meal if it was time. At our last stop the counter person even brought our food out to us and came back to check and see if we needed refills on drinks or anything. It was such a pleasant change from the usual fast food or rest stop sandwhiches!! |

You painted a really adorable picture here! |
Yeah for Cracker Barrell!! I love eating there on road trips. It's great food and now I like them even better for being pet friendly!! |
Boo & I will have to stop at Cracker Barrell on our way to NC for the camping trip!! |
Thanks Ginny. I wonder how Cracker Barrel would feel about a much bigger dog than Ty? Meals on the road are our biggest challenge when travelling with Bailey. Fortunately, he's a pretty quiet dog so we tend to just leave him in the room in his crate for a quick dinner, even though we're not supposed to. |
Cracker Barrel is really neat. I went to my first one this past Feb in GA - great experience! What a cool idea for travel! |
Emily: you know that Florida is becoming more "pet friendly". You can now take your pets to some restraunts as long as you sit outside. It is up to the restraunt weither they allow pets or not, so you can always call ahead. I really like Cracker Barrel so am happy to see they went that extra step to satisfy a customer. |
Cracker Barrel sounds great. It is so nice to find a place that values good service.
Alot of places don't want dogs unattended because they don't want cleaning staff to be surprised or possibly injured or to have furnishings damaged. Some have a crate requirement. I found that I could leave the dogs if I just put the do not disturb sign on the door. I didn't leave them superlong -- but long enough to have a meal in the hotel or someplace nearby. I would try to get a quiet room on the interior, not near the elevator to minimize Maggie's watchdog barking. Despite the pet policy, no one ever looked twice when I was out and about without the dogs. Also, if the weather is nice, lots of restaurants are pet-friendly. There's a pretty good list on this website: www.dogfriendly.com. My two were often happier to stay in the car -- in the cool weather in the shade with windows open where I could see then -- and I would periodically check to make sure it wasn't getting hot. |

We always travel with Bailey's crate. He feels more comfortable being left in the crate, and this way if a hotel staff member does walk in there won't be any surprises. |

You mean you dont want "My little Pony" knocking down and slobber kissing all of the hotel staff??? What fun is that?? |
