Possible recurrence of Lepto ( leptospirosis )

Has anyone had any experience with leptospirosis? A year or so our 5 yo Great Pyrenees had what the vet thought was Leptospirosis, even though the titers kept coming back negative. We treated her with antibiotics and she got over what ever it was, Her symptoms were drinking A LOT of water and urinating alot. Her urinalysis showed a high glucose and was very dilute. Her liver test was also abnormal Her blood sugar was normal so it wasn't diabetes. Now she is showing the same symptoms again. The vet tried cefelexin and it hasn't helped so we are switching to ciprofloxacin. Other than the polydipsia and polyuria she seem fine. She has has no nausea or vomiting, no fever that I can tell and is eating and acting normal. I guess I am concerned that it is something chronic or congenital but if that was the case the antibiotics wouldn't get rid of the symptoms. The vet is going to draw blood tomorrow to check her liver and make sure she isn't dehydrated.
We have 5 other dogs that have not ever shown these symptoms, which makes it even more perplexing.
I just wondered if any one else has had anything similar to happen with their furkids.
Thanks,
Susan and the pack

Hi Susan,

I'm so sorry that you are going through this with your girl. I don't have any input as to this condition but wanted to offer my support. Lets hope others on the forum may have some info that you are seeking. Best wishes.

Yuck, sounds like something difficult to track down. There are many different forms of diabetes. Has your vet discounted nephrogenic diabetes insipidus? Also how about the adrenal glands? Congenital sounds like a good guess. Antibiotics don't cure everything.

This is a case to scratch one's head.......sorry the pretty girl his having trouble.
Our vet drew blood work and should have it back tomorrow. She changed the antibiotics to see if that will help. cedelexen didn't really help the first time either. We shall see. Katrina did coment that Lilly sure doesn't look or act like she is sick. I had her get a temp on her and it was normal. We will know more tomorrow I hope.

Thanks,
Susan
