Norman's gone

We lost Norman on Friday, he was almost 13 and a half.
He started to get sick last week and the muscle atrophy that has been plagueing him these last few years got to the point where his organs began shutting down.
The vets said that he probably only started to have any pain that last day so at least we were able to spare him that.
Norman was my very first sheepdog. Almost too smart for his own good! I'm pretty sure that if given the chance and opposable thumbs he'd have been able to take over the world.
I'll miss his attitude and everything that went along with it. His legacy lives on with every sheepdog that I'll ever have but no one will ever replace him.

I am really sorry to hear of your loss, Norman will be there forever in your hearts and memories. Your first sheepie and a real character by the sounds of it. It is always so hard when our babies have to cross the bridge. I hope norman runs free and young again with all the other sheepies who have crossed the bridge.

Hugs to you all and my sympathy to the whole family on the loss of such a special & wonderful boy. :(
I'm so sorry to hear about Norman. It's always hard to lose such a big part of your life.

Keep all the great memorys close to you, and be thankful for all the love he gave to you and your family.

Mandy, I am so sorry for your loss and personally saddened as well. I also love that picture from our Philly play date. What a gentle soul he was.

You're absolutely right - no other sheepie can ever replace our first one. They are special in their own right.

Norman is now pain free and watching everyone from the bridge, bless his soul. You and Bob are in my thoughts as you grieve.
I am very sorry for your loss.

Oh, Mandy! I am so sorry to hear about Norman. It's always heartbreaking to hear that another sheepie has gone to the Bridge. There have been so many that have left us this year!

May all the good memories of Norman fill the void in your heart. You are in my thoughts.
Hi Mandy,

I'm so sad to hear of Norman's passing and my hugs and heartfelt condolences go out to you. I will miss Norman stories, he definately was a character and such a gentle soul by the sounds of it.

I will always remember the photos of your living room with the shredded stuff all over the room, and the one of Norman standing like an old guard at the top of the stairs.

The grief we feel is so hard but does ease with time, replaced by smiles at the memories. He will live forever in your heart.

Belly rubs to his brothers too.

Marianne and the boys
I am very sorry for your loss of Norman. Try to remember the good times and how very lucky you were to have him. Hang in there.

He's a beautiful boy! I'm so sorry for your loss. Even during the sorrow of their passing, they still make us laugh with the memories they leave behind. Sheepies are sooooooooo wonderful. God bless.
I am so sorry for you and your family for the loss of Norman. He was very beautiful. I love the picture you posted of him. I am so sorry for the pain and great sadness I'm sure you are feeling. I remember my first Sheepie Katrina like she's still here. So I hope that will be the case for you as well. It's amazing the big piece of your heart that will always belong only to them.
Oh Mandy, this sucks. Norman was a good friend and I'm glad you were able to spare him the pain. If only I could do something to help heal the hole in your heart.
Mandy-I am so sorry to hear that you have lost Norman. Just remember that he is waiting for you at the Bridge, with happy smiles and sheepie kisses.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss...

Hey everybody!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the kind words. It has been, in a word, weird, around here. Norman passed on Friday and Suzi went home on Saturday so weird and quiet. I never thought that with 2 big dogs it would ever be quiet but it really is.
Carl and Toby are trying to figure out who is boss now. Carl seems kind of sad and Toby is really acting out since there is no one (dogwise) to discipline him.
Bob is still extremely sad and has already started bugging me for another sheepdog. Last week he said it was too crazy around here and now it's empty. Men.... I said that we really need to wait to bring in another puppy.
The weekend was fine because it was so busy but when everything finally settled is when the big reality really hit. Every once in a while I find myself looking for him and it starts all over again. Each time is a little easier but I don't know if it will ever go away completely.
Anyway, thanks again everybody! You've all been a great support and a HUGE help!!!!
Mandy, I'm so sorry about Norman :( I know how you and Bob feel, glad that he's not suffering but still wanting more time. Give Carl and Toby a big hug from me.

Holly
I am so sorry about your loss.
Mandy, I'm so sorry for your loss of lovely Norman.

What a beautiful handsome chap is was, there'll be some flirting going on over the bridge thats for sure :hearts:

Happy memories xx
I've just found this thread and I'm saddened beyond words.

Somehow "I'm sorry" just doesn't seem sufficient to express my deep sorrow for the loss of your precious Norman.

Please know you're all in my thoughts & prayers.
Mandy,

I'm so sorry to hear of Normans passing, and I too understand the quiet, it's almost unnerving.

Leslie
Mandy,
My heart goes out to you. If my arms could stretch that far I'd reach out and give you a great big hug.
Thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time... keep the memories alive in your heart and know your sheepie had a good life with you.
Just to say im sorry! xxx
He was such a beautiful dog.....and to have such a fine boy as your first dog! Wonderful. He is responsible for carving that niche in your heart for sheepdogs.......his contribution to your life will remain forever.

We are thinking now of a sheepie, whose coat was fluff in the sunshine
and who, so far as we are aware, never entertained a mean or unworthy thought.
This sheepie is buried beneath a cherry tree, under four feet of garden loam,
and at its proper season the cherry tree strews petals on the green lawn of his grave.
Beneath a cherry tree, or an apple, or any flowering shrub of the garden,
is an excellent place to bury a dog.
Beneath such trees, such shrubs, he slept in the drowsy summer,
or gnawed at a flavored bone, or lifted his head to challenge some strange intruder.
These are good places, in life or in death.
Yet it is a small matter, and it touches sentiment more than anything else.
For if the dog be well remembered,
if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life,
eyes kindling, questing, asking, laughing, begging,
it matters not at all where that dog sleeps and at last.
On a hill where the wind is unrebuked, and the trees are roaring,
or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood,
or somewhere in the flatness of a pasture land, where most exhilarating cattle graze.
It is all one to the dog, and all one to you,
and nothing is gained, and nothing is lost - if memory lives.
But there is one best place to bury a dog.
One place that is best of all.
If you bury him in this spot, the secret of which you must already have,
he will come to you when you call -
come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death,
and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again.
And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they should not growl at him,
nor resent his coming, for he is yours and he belongs here.
People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his foot,
who hear no whimper pitched too fine for mere audition,
people who may never really have had a dog.
Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them,
and which is well worth knowing.
The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.
I'm so sorry for the loss of Norman
