But I am really mad at those terrorists for this current debacle. Tomorrow I have to spend 5 hours in a plane without the things that help me survive the dry cabin air - water, lip balm, and contact lens drops. Limiting me to one little cup of water on a 5 hour flight is just inhumane. And they're taking away everything in gel form, even lipstick and lip balm. Sorry, just had to vent... |

Hafe a safe trip. We are flying on Sept 11th (prob 10 hrs), and it gives me chills that this could have been planned on that day. Not that I would be afraid to fly because I'm not ...I think
I'm so glad I can bring my milk. That would stink. Lil J would be screaming w/o it. |
That really does stink!! Just come home safe and sound...Ill have a big glass of water and a glass of chilled wine wating! |
Sue, sweetie... Don't be nervous. Now is probably the safest time you could been flying, since everyone is on such high alert. Yes, its a pain in the tush, but...think how great it will be when you get home and have that nice, tall, cold glass of ice water (or whatever!) Safe trip, darlin! |
Are they not even going to have inflight beverages available from the airlines? I knew you couldn't carry on anything (didn't realize that included tubes of lipstick... yow!) but I thought they'd still have cans of pop and juice available from the stewardesses. (Unless your flying Northwest of course, then you may not even HAVE a stewardess!)
This leads me to wonder- once you've passed the security checkpoint, can you purchase any of those products at the stores and kiosks at the airport? Are the items considred "safe" if you get them at the airport, or did all the stores have to pull the liquid products too? Will they check you again before boarding to see if you bought something liquid? Hmm... |
Oh Ohhhhh, now Sue is MAD!
Crash into a building or two, pffffft. But take away her LIP BALM! OMG! We're always fighting the previous battle; perhaps they'll ease up a bit for your return flight. EDIT: Oooops I se it IS your return flight. Well, stay moist. (What about some moist towelettes?) |
Iriskmj don't know about the USA but if you are flying from the UK all liquids are confiscated before you get on the plain that includes your duty frees . |
Maybe Sue will tell us when she gets back from her trip.... Hmmm |
Jo,
When you fly with little J make sure you bring any milk in powder form. Only the powder formula is making it on board a plane. Nothing premixed. |
Ooooh - I am curious to see how it ends up. It is hard not to be allowed water - I ALWAYS bring some from home. |

The news said all morning that breastmilk, formula, and juice is allowed if you board with a child. |

Crash into a building or two, pffffft. But take away her LIP BALM! OMG! You got that right. Nothing worse than cracked lips and dry contact lenses. Eeewww. The terrifying part is that it seems so easy to create a bomb - peroxide paste, sports drink and a cell phone, according to the news reports. If it's that easy to jerry rig a bomb, then maybe I should be scared to fly. |
I was looking at the new security if you are flying out of the UK... makes the security for flying out the U.S. seem mild in comparision. They aren't even allowing you to bring a purse on board.
New Security Requirements at UK Airports All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports Passengers may only take the following items through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag: · Pocket size wallets and pocket size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags)) · Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets) · Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic · Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases · Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution · For those traveling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags) · Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes) · Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs · Keys (but no electrical key fobs) All passengers must be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying must be x-ray screened. Pushchairs and walking aids must be x-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point. In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point, must be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate. Any liquids discovered must be removed from the passenger. New Security Measures at U.S. Airports The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security has determined that there is a high risk of terrorism against U.S. civil aviation, and the need for extra restrictions to assure the security of air travel. In order to address the higher risk, the Department of Homeland Security has implemented the following new security measures until further notice. No liquids or gels are permitted to enter the sterile area through the screening checkpoint or be in accessible property or on one’s person except: · Baby formula, breast milk, or juice if a baby or small child is traveling · Prescription medicine with a name that matches the passenger’s ticket · Insulin and essential other non-prescription medicines Examples of liquids and gels included in these security measures include: · Beverages · Shampoo · Suntan Lotion · Creams · Toothpaste · Hair Gel · Other items of similar consistency Also, you will not be allowed to bring any liquids or gels purchased after passing through the security checkpoint onboard the aircraft. |

I wonder how they're going to make sure that you don't bring any purchased liquids onto the plane. Another bag search at the boarding gate? I'll let you know tomorrow - I'm flying out of Washington Reagan, one of the target airports, so security here will be tough. |
Sue...where the heck are you? Would you get your [buns]home already?! |
Yeah!!!! Do as Deb says! |
debcram wrote: Sue...where the heck are you? Would you get your [buns] home already?!
Geez, Deb, you sound just like Bailey Alas, they don't pay me to stay home. I'm in Bethesda MD which is a kick [buns] town. Lots of cute shops and great restaurants in the downtown area. Two thumbs up. |
Sue I absoluetely agreee with you. The whole thing is getting out of control. Before you know it we'll have to strip down and put a paper hospital gown on before we fly. I am a chap stick addict, haven't gone ANYWHERE in the last 30 years without a tube of chapstick in my pocket or purse, can't imagine boarding a plane without one in my pocket or purse. JUST AMAZING!!!!!!!!! next thing you know they will be doing body cavity searches!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Now That's an idea! |
I was watching the news this morning, and they said that any liquids purchased at the airport would be confiscated prior to boarding. Looks like you better drinkt hat orange juice or coffee before trying to board. They've even told the stores to pull all banned items. Wow... that is gonna cut into profits big time for the stores at the airports...
They said that the terrorists ahd put the chemicals int sports bottles with false bottoms, so they had a sports drink on top, which they could drink if necessary, and the chemical in the bottom, dyed to match. Scary stuff!!!! |
Not going to try to cheer you up, Sue, it stinks! It's awful. Come home safely! |

Ginny, we must be twins! I've been thinking this all day! susan |
Hahahahahhahahahaha!!!! |
Jay Leno is quoted as saying that soon you'll only be able to travel with your skivies on...hmmm well means those folks that like going commando may be a tad embarressed.
I feel for you Deb, the lines are long at airports all over the world. Least you'll be safe, so rant as much as you want and we're here for you. Marianne |
Yeah, it totally sucks. Why do there have to be such sick b@%st^&rds in the world that ruin it for everybody?
Come home safe. I'm surprised you didn't mention the extra long lines. They had lines as long as two football fields on the news. They were talking about the duty free stores taking a big hit in sales so they were requesting to meet with somebody to come up with options. I would freak if I couldn't take my purse with me. The way the airlines lose stuff if you have to check your cell phone and computer in the checked baggage that too is a huge risk. Who knows if you will get it back. |
My DIL is on vacation with us, her Dad was in the Pentagon when it was hit so she has bit different view of airport security then I do, understandably. I guess I think a computer or phone is potentially more dangerous than a tube of liptick. why not just stop all air flight all together. It wouldn't be so bad it airlines weren't so terrible at getting baggage where it's supposed to go but the odds of your baggage arriving at it's intended destination is about 50/50 these days.
Crazy crazy crazy |
Sue! Are ya home, yet? Let us know how the flight went. We're people cool with all restrictions? Welcome home!!!! We missed ya! |
