His diet has not changed in years. He only eats dog food, charcoal biscuits and frosty paws. In the last 24 hours, I have tried Beano and charcoal tablets...nothing is working. Any advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks - Sandy |

I can say that my dogs don't have any gas:) I also do not feed commercial dog food, They eat a natural diet consisting of meats, vegetables and some vitamin supplements. I also find that my dogs have clean teeth, no bad breath and are not overweight. I know this is not for everybody(feeding natural) but maybe the problem is the lack of variety? Could an ingredient in the food may be causing this? There are some great nutrition books for dogs
maybe check this out. |
Sandy, first of all what kind of food do you feed? Lamb based formulas are great for some dogs, but I have always found they make dogs gassy.
Also, since you dog is getting older, have you considered a senior dog food, since their needs and digestive abilities do change over time. |
You may want to look into the Science Diet I/D brands. They seem to custom make the food for sensitive tummies. |
Read the dog food and treat labels. Eliminate all soy. I'd also try to eliminate milk and corn, if possible. (there go those frosty paws).
Try taking him down to a brown rice and meat diet for awhile to see if you can relieve the problem. Your guy is getting older and as we older folks know, we just don't digest the same way. bunnyboss |
I was thinking about this post for a few days now and hesitated giving my advice but it works so here goes:
While the dog in question isn't a sheepie as my other two but a BlueHeeler/ Lab that's always had a horrible "flatuance problem" ewwww! He's now 15 and spry as ever, keeping up with his much younger Sheepie siblings but lately has had trouble going to the bathroom on occasion - I give him a bran muffin to nibble on. Seems to do the trick! |
Whole bran was a staple of our dog's diet for many of his last years.
Sprinkled on top of his kibble, and moistened with chicken stock. Yum! He always licked the bowl dry before going after his food. |
