Any recent cooking disasters?

I don't bake much anymore......and probably for a good reason.

Today I set out to make baklava and pasta flora for my husband to take to work tomorrow. Baklava is pretty much a no brainer. No problems there. It was the pasta flora. This is a shortbread base with fruit conserve or jam on the top. The shortbread is formed into a trough, the jam spread down the middle and if the spirit moves you, a lattice crust can be added on top. The spirit didn't move me. So in it went, baked nicely, but when I took it out, my hand failed and in one swift motion I overturned the whole sticky mess into an the open pot holder and and kitchen towel drawer. I guess that was better than landing on the floor.

You have any boo-boos lately.

oh noooo!!!! All that hard work!!!! I've so had that happen before. I was known for my blueberry muffins at our last assignment. Was asked to make some for everyone before they went to the field. TWO TIMES I scewed up a batch. First one fell on the floor. The second didn't get a chance to cook because the entire batter fell into the hot oven. It was a horrible mess to clean up ...as I'm sure yours was!!! Maybe you can extend the 5 second rule to one hour and tell everyone to grab a fork around the kitchen floor ;)
eeewwww! Batter on the oven floor. YUCK! Long ago I learned to line the bottom with foil.....(no my oven is not self cleaning. I'm the self)

I'm just so very happy it didn't hit the floor and there were no dogs around to burn their mouths on hot sugary jam. Funny though, some of the dough remained on the sheet. Completely cooked with only a hit of apriocot jam........it was yummy  Waste not means waist grows.

This reminds me of the thanksgiving disaster year the oven door fell and Stella, the Great Pyr fought off Olivia and Splash sheepdogs for the right to eat the pumpkin pies she knocked to the floor.
Not anything recent, but a few years back I had an oven disaster. I had a roast with potatoes and carrots, with gravy cooking in a cast iron dutch oven. Not real sure how it happened, but when I opened the oven door the shelf and all fell out of the oven. By instinct, I reached for it, but missed (probably a good thing) instead of running. When the skillet hit the floor the grav jumped out of it and onto my arm. Had a really nasty burn (3rd degree) that just wouldn't go away. After a trip to the Dr and a tube of ointment, there are still scars.
this was this past winter...I was making beef stew for dinner. Put it in the crock pot and left for work....I come home and smell something horribly burnt...I run to the crock pot and sure enough, the liquid had evaporated, leaving all of the contents burnt to a crisp...I go into the family room and ask Brian if he couldnt smell the burning meat and why he didnt add more stock....his reply....It smelled ''normal''......
Sure, he's a fireman! Or else Darcy, you are a bad cook.

The smaller crock pots cook too fast. No way I could leave one all day. As it is, they are equal to or sometimes faster than stovetop cooking. (obviously I've burned my share of stuff in the smaller cooker)
I am NOT a bad cook....lol....he just has no taste 8O
