We live in Florida and saw a need to start-up this new OES rescue group and plan to serve the abandoned, mistreated, or unwanted OES in the “Land of Cotton”. We have just received our non-profit status and have applied to be 501(c)(3) corporation. Rosie, our first Dixie rescue dog, was placed in her forever home a week ago week. Two new dogs, Smoochie and Sebastian, are now in our foster care. Michelina has painted us our very own puppy, “Dixie”, the elite pup with a ball. He is adorable! Please visit us on-line at www.dixieoesrescue.com . Linda Allen, our webmaster, has done a fantastic job putting all of our wants and needs on a website. We owe her our deepest gratitude and quite a bit of hair dye for all the gray hair we have given her! We would love to hear from you. Please consider becoming a member of Dixie -- you can even join on-line! Whistlin’ Dixie, our newsletter, will be published quarterly. Our on-line store will have some very unique items available soon. We look forward to seeing y’all at the Rescue Parade at the OESCA National in Williamsburg, VA this October. Best regards, Gene Belden, Karen Burdash, and Marie Harrington Directors Dixie Old English Sheepdog Rescue, Inc. www.dixieoesrescue.com |

Hello Marie,
Congrats to you! I wish you much success along the way! xoxo Michelina~ |
Just a short note to combat the theroy that rescue dogs are problems.. Let me share a story that will put all that to rest... Sophie came into our life last year through Karen.. Sophie has shown a heart that only wants to give to make others happy. Sophie is a therapy dog that specializes in geriatric and psychiatric residents. She goes to work with me everyday and is the happiest employee of the facility. Her calm demeanor and warm eyes bring joy to residents, visitors and staff. Resident's wait for her to come down to visit. She offers a peace to the restless, anxious and sad.. and entertainment to those who just want to pet the "world's most wonderful girl". DON'T ever sell short those that are rescued.. there hearts are wonderful and they want to find a place to give and receive love. Just ask Sophie... She proudly and eagerly gives to all!!! |
The link for the website is not coming up. Is it me??? |
Thank you Sophies mom and dad for your update. Rescue dogs are great!
My basset Simon, as well as my OES Chewie are both therapy dogs. Simon came to me as a 6 year old rescue, and he makes a great therapy dog! |

My basset Simon, as well as my OES Chewie are both therapy dogs. Simon came to me as a 6 year old rescue, and he makes a great therapy dog! My Patch, also a rescue from death row, is a therapy dog - she won therapy dog of the year - honoree in 2006. 600 people paid $100 a plate to attend the awards ceremony - it was absolutely heartwarming. she also visits a psychiatric hospital and geriatric and altzheimer centers along with an occasional homeless shelter. They love her and I love working along with her. rescues are the best, our sheeps are the best. |
Dixie Rescue is going through some growing pains...
We own both www.dixieoesrescue.com and .org The webmaster for some reason put everything on .com I've requested it also be put on .org and also to please add a "to join" page a "to donate" page (both hooked up to paypal) as well as an online adoption application form. I am open to any and all other suggestions for our website. Please go onto the .com version to see what we have so far and pretend you want to turn in a dog -- is all the info there that you need? pretend you found a dog that you think is an oes... pretend you want to adopt... pretend you want to foster... donate... join... etc... any other sceneraio you can think of... We have it set up for a store (and already have some items to sell) but haven't had chance to photgraph the items and get it listed. I am looking for volunteers in all areas. Thank you so much.
