HELP!!!!!! |

his fur is probably matted, which probably caused irritations to his skin, making him bite and scratch at the spots where the mats are very bad. my suggestion would be to get him to a groomer asap. they will probably shave him. while his fur is growing back you should groom him regularly... give him a bath when he smells or is dirty and brush out his fur. if you want your sheepie to have a full coat you need to groom him allll the time. if you look under the grooming topic there are suggestions on what tools to use and how to make brushing and bathing easier on the both of you.
if you dont think its from the mats then perhaps he has an infection or some other skin irritation. in that case you should get him to the vet asap. |
It sounds like this could be an infection and may be very serious! You need to have him groomed and checked by a Vet ASAP. This time of year is very dangerous for maggots infestation!!!!
There was an OES at the Vet last year that had to have his rectum repaired because it had been "eaten away" by maggots! Sorry for the gross description - but keeping the dog clean and well groomed is imperative! |
I guess I didn't give enough info. There were no matts. We groom him quite often. I did have him shaved seeing if that would help. His hair is growing back nice but it still has a brown shade that wasn't there before. Thanks for your responses. |
He may have skin infection and/or disorder (allergy, thyroid condition, etc.). The "brown" coloring may have more to do with the dog licking and discoloring the fur- but the underlying cause should be investigated.
I found a great link to Skin Infection/Disorders on a Lowchen website... http://www.lowchensaustralia.com/skin.htm I would have it checked out by a Vet to be on the safe side! Good Luck Toby! Kristen |
Abbi has allergies. The protiens in her saliva build up when they have allergies and discolors any hair it lands upon.
Besides having the dog treated for this condition, try giving him plenty of water to dilute the protiens in the saliva. Check his teeth and ears. These can be affected by the same problems BritPresSyd mentioned and add to the stench. |
Norman is allergic to beef and whenever he gets into a good portion of it he gets extremely itchy and his hair gets a brown tinge to it. Your doggies condition sounds very much like Norman's your vet can do an allergy check just to be sure.
