Introducing Maggy!

I am in a bit of shock! So many on the forum had told me that 'Good things come to those who wait' and that "The right OES would come along in time."

I am bubbling over to announce that our family has the opportunity to foster a 3 year old Female Sheepie, Maddy - we like to call her "Maggy"! :D She's such a "Maggy"!

She is gorgeous! Am I a bit prejudice?! She has one blue eye and one . Her eyes look at you and you can see her huge heart! :)

I was able to spring her out of a shelter in St. Paul on Saturday! She is the biggest little honey I've met! Very friendly, outgoing, funny, and very sleepy! After all -- how can a girl get any rest in a shelter full of barking dogs!

Here's the story: I was browsing PetFinder at a ridiculous time of day--after midnight and Maddy's ad came up! Here's the link!

I called the Rescue Contact in IL the next morning! What a dear lady! She helped me every step of the way. I arrived at the shelter before it opened so I could be the first one to have the opportunity to take this little girl out for a walk. (She only weighs about 45-50 lb.)

She's PERFECT! Loves kids! Loves other dogs! (we had to make a stop at PetSmart for food, treats and a gallon of Nature's Miracle, of course! :) ) Not yet kitty tested! Learned how to 'play' with toys on her first day here! Discovered that chew toys are pretty neat! (the Vet at the pound said her teeth are full of tartar) I gave her a bath and groomed her -- she was filthy and needed here feet and rump trimmed a bit more. She was SO good for her grooming! Later last night she hung out to watch a movie with my husband and I after dinner! She's already chosen her favorite blankie and her favorite toy--both which she drug downstairs with her! :) (I had a wicker basket set up with toys, blankies, etc. for the 'puppy' I was hoping to get! :) She is reaping all the rewards of my puppy shopping!

Although I think she's perfect -- she does need a little help in some areas. She isn't fully house trained, but with patience and consistency I believe I can help her to become fully house trained. She has only had one accident -- however, it was in a spot that it seems all the dogs that visit like to pee on! (the previous owner of my home had a terrier and try as I might --I can't get that spot out!) 8O

She jumps up on the counters in the kitchen to check things out. (that's a 'no no' here)
She has some really loose stools -- gave her rice and moist kibble for dinner and a dose of Pet Pectillin. (diarrhea med. for dogs) She seems to be doing better. She hasn't had a problem holding her bowels since we were at the pound. Knock on wood!

She's gone with me everywhere! (She loves to ride in the car!) Two trips to PetSmart. One yesterday and one today! Yahooo! Driving the kids around, trip to Grandma's to drop off a plant, walks to meet the neighbor dogs, raking the yard and putting in grass seed! Big fun! Our daughter had mowed the lawn this morning so today Maggy's paws are GREEN! 8O After a nice bath yesterday!

I'm in love with this girl already! It is going to be SO hard when/if a qualified family comes along to adopt her! My DH told me not to get too attached. I think it's TOO LATE for all of us! :)

{{{{Thanks you all for all of your help! I love this forum and the people on it! :) }}}}}

I'm off to hang out with the most 'poopular' girl here! ;)

Tonight is "nail trimming" night! Wooof hooo!

Congrats Grace! I'm so happy for you! *hugs*
Won't you be able to adopt her? I didn't quite understand the part about having to let her go if the right family came along, it sounds like Maggie should stay put.
I'm so happy for you :!: :!: I was sorry to here that all of Bella's siblings were taken. I agree with willow i think maggy has everything she need with you. will you be able to adopt???
Cher
I just don't want to presume I can adopt. I'm not sure how everything works. I haven't talked to the IL Rescue since yesterday. I am hoping I can keep her! She is so comfortable here and we love having her with us! Does anyone know off hand how rescue generaly works in this regard?
shes adorable!!

i hope you can adopt her, it sounds like you two were made for each other !
OMG! The Rescue called late tonight and told me that I can keep her if I want to! I am SO excited! Also she added me as a rescue contact in MN. so now when there are OES in need I will go get them and bring them to live with me until we can find a good home!

I can't believe it! I started out whining about not being able to find a Sheepie and now I might have multiple OES at one time! :)

We are going to get our yard ready for multiple dogs - just in case we are fortunate enough to foster more! We are considering putting in a special 'potty area' on the side of the house to keep the grass from yellowing or 'spot greening' in circles.

I never thought I'd be able to say this ... but I am nearly speechless with excitement! :)

Maggy and I are going to the Vet tomorrow to weigh her and let her sniff around a bit before her apt this week. She's pretty thin. She'll also need boosters, heartworm test, teeth check, etc.

Did I just say I was speechless? I think in all honesty--I could talk about this girl all day long!

My DH and DD put a deposit down on a puppy mill puppy last week. Trying to be sweet, a Mother's Day gift. I am thinking of letting the deposit go. But would that be considered promoting a puppy mill? -- To just let them keep the nonrefundable deposit and the pup? I don't know... HELP :!:

{{{ Thanks for listening and for letting me share! That you for all of your care and support! }}}
Grace, I am so glad you found your new girl. It must have been fate for you not to be quick enough to get Bart and this new girl shows up at a shelter so soon thereafter. I wish you all the luck wth her.

A suggestion with your deposit... I don't know if the deposit was made with a credit card or not, but you can easily despute the charge with the credit card company to have it taken off of your charge. You call first and notify them of a problem. Then you will probably have to send them a letter explaining the circumstances. I had to do this twice in my life. Once was because of a faulty cell phone that the store would not take back and another was with a shady stereo equipment company that even though I had cancelled my order 10 minutes after placing it, they still shipped the item and when I tried returning it, they refused it!! I am sure you can make a strong arguement about finding out that you found out your deposit is going to a puppy mill and no longer want the pup. Some breeders will refund your money, so maybe you can try that route first. Please do not mention about trying to take the charge off of your credit card to them as they may try to circumvent you.
I think you are right -- it must have been fate that I missed out on adopting Bart. I am praying that he is in a really good home with someone who knows a little bit of what they are getting into with Sheepies.

Great suggestion about the credit card! I didn't even think of that! I am going to try that, keep my fingers crosses, and see what happens. It would be nice to have the deposit to spend on more fun things for Maggy! :)

 Miss Maggy seems to be settling in really well. She isn't very interested in eating. Not her kibble, not people food, nothing. She just picks at it her kibble and although she will watch us eat, when I go to put something tasty in her bowl -- she leaves it. I am hoping that it is simply due to the adjustment period and that she isn't ill. (she certainly seems like a healthy girl!) She does drink TONS of water. I am going to mention these things to my Vet when we go in.

I am going to remove the ad for "Excellent home needed for OES" today as I think she is stuck here with me and me with her! I can't even go to the bathroom without her coming with -- but fair is fair -- because I watch to make sure she goes too!
Hi Grace,

I'm so HAPPY for you and your family and of course for Maggy!!! Yes, it was meant to be that yours of course was the perfect home!

She seems so wonderful and full of personality. The potty training will come fairly quick I'm sure, as she still is unsure of ways to let you know she had to go outside or doors to be able to go out. These guys/girls are so intelligent that she'll have it down pact within a week or so. I saw her pic and she's so pretty and at three she'll be with you for many years to come. Even tho I have a house full I can't help but be jealous - how very lucky you all are. Congrats on your new girl and please keep us updated as to her progress!

Marianne
Grace,

You have made my day! Congrats! Things happen for a reason - and this was meant to be! Happy MOTHER's Day!!!!

I'm so happy for you! You will not regret it - Maggy will be a wonderful addition to your family - and will be so grateful for you!

Remember, OES are like Lay's Potato Chips - you can't stop with just one! :P

If Maggie's housebreaking continues to be an issue - have her checked for a UTI. The diarrhea is common - she's just adjusting to new food and a new home - and was probably nervous being in the shelter! That should clear up in a few days! Best of Luck!

Kristen
Congratulations Grace & Maggy! I am thrilled for you both.
I want to thank you for the love and support you have given me through everything while waiting for my Sheepie girl!

I don't know how things would have gone without the e-mails and private messages from some really special people here since I joined the forum.
I'm dying to 'name names'!

Maggy and I have a lot of adventures to go on, places to explore, trials and errors to go through, lots of kisses and love to exchange, things to learn from one another ... and I look forward to every moment!

I pray that I can be bring as much happiness to Maggy as she has (already!) brought to me.
PS! I'm adding the test for a UTI to the list of things I need to go over with the Vet! Thank you! <3
Grace, Maggie & Family

I am just so absolutely, postively, thrilled Maggie found you. You sound like you are a Sheepies dream come true. Sounds like Miss Maggie definitely found the home of her dogdreams.

I know what you were going through, it's so hard being patient when you know just what you want, but things do happen for a reason and wasn't the wait worth it? :D

Hugs to Maggie.
Maggie is beautiful, congrats! I just hate to think what the other puppy will go through! I hate all this puupymill stuff because it seems that the ones that get hurt are the puppies. I just wonder if the puppy you were to have will be a rescue some day  Congrats and I wish the best with Maggie 8)
I wonder (and worry) what will happen to the mill puppies also.

I'm afraid to ask--but--What DO the "millers" do with them if they don't sell?

Does anyone know?

:?: :!:
