Why in the world did I think getting an OES puppy would happen in one easy step? I should no better (Step 1) I tried to contact Shug (Kaye) about one of the puppies she is raising to see if I can adopt one.. For the past 2 weeks, I PMed, e-mailed, called and left message twice, and still no word from her. I kind of feel like a stocker. LOL ( I hope she doesn't freak out) Does anyone know if she's away?? (Step 2) I figured she was too busy so I contacted Tarja, head of OES breeder referral. Just wanted to call, or visit several breeders in my area to learn about OES, see them, play with them, etc.. I received an automated message that she doesn't have frequent internet access this month.. (Step3) The OES webpage Tarja gave me, and the ones I found online don't list any breeders in my area (Maryland, Virginia, DC) (Step 4) Searched for rescue groups in the area, I don't see any organized rescue group either.. I get an e-mail address for a lady VA (no DC, no MD) I e-mailed... but no reply. (Step 5) Does anyone know any reputable breeder in the washington DC, Maryland, Virginia area? Please help me!! |

I know Kaye's going through a lot of personal stuff right now, that may be why she's taking awhile to get back to you.
I understand your frustration, though. It's so hard to wait when you're all motivated and excited! |
Thanks butterscotch.
Lately I'm not myself Can't stay away from this board, can't stop staring at all your babies' pictures, and I dream Sheepies~ Oh gosh, I keep showing our dog Sheepie pictures hoping he'll recognize them in RL |
You could also contact the New England Old English Sheepdod Rescue Society and in particular Grannie Annie. They have contacts all over the US.

Hang in there, Joanna! It can definitely take a while but Kaye and Tarja will both get back to you. With breeders, it is all a matter of timing and I think you just missed a big wave of puppies from last spring. With rescues, puppies are a bit more rare, which is why it is worth waiting for Kaye to see what the deal is with her latest batch.
For what it is worth, I adopted a 1 year old via rescue, and she has been every bit the playful puppy but she came housebroken, which made my life alot easier. If you would consider an older puppy, you will expand your options quite a bit. . . I found both of mine on Petfinder.com. But of course, I can understand wanting your own baby fluffball with no baggage. . . |

(Step 5) Does anyone know any reputable breeder in the washington DC, Maryland, Virginia area? Please help me!! i wish you the best of luck in finding one, you sound like you'll take great care of him or her. unfortunately i think the rules are against us posting the names of breeders on the forum, but i don't think you've broken any rules in asking. |
I know your feeling of desperation I was there not so very long ago. But now we have Noodle, one of the miracle puppies from Kaye's last rescue.
Use this time to dream, think of sheepie names and read everything you can on puppy behavior. Oh, and shop Your pup will show up at the exact right time Lark, Noodle and the boys |
From the Old English Sheepdog Club of America:
http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... ectory.htm Breeders by state - hope it helps! Did you call Tarja? Calling is the fastest way I've found to find out information because it leads to people bringing up people, etc. I had to do quite a bit of digging to find a reputable breeder near my area!! GOOD LUCK - let me know if it helps! |
Hi, just PM'd you about an OES of America referred breeder in your area that has puppies available... |
Thank you for the encouragement!!!
I'm sorry if I placed anyone in an uncomfy situation. I did read the rules and thought just listing all the breeders in a certain area wouldn't be a problem as opposed to just recommending one. You guys are the greatest.. I've regained the motivation, more like patience, to wait for the right one... |
