My name is Myles and this is a little history of our OES "Keno" and how he became part of our family. "Keno" just turned 1 year old on the 23rd of this month. I bought him as a gift for my girlfriend (at the time) for our 10 year anniversary. I had to do some fancy footwork to keep it as a surprise! We live about 2 hours east of Toronto and the breeder flew in from Edmonton with the puppy and met us at the airport at 6:00am! We actually drove to Toronto the day before because i had a friend flying in fron the UK who we were picking up as well. Talk about timing! We spent the night in a hotel and then got up nice and early (5:00) to meet the breeder for six. LOL While all of this is going on my girlfriend had absolutely NO idea what we were doing going back to the airport so early and I simply told her that we were meeting some people. She was quite confused and was getting a little...how do you say it..........antsy..............and her patience was starting to run out with me! LOL Well we're sitting at the terminal for about 45 minutes and I see this lady finally walk by pushing a pet traveller on wheels. I yelled "Linda?" and sure enough it was the breeder we were to meet. We introduced ourselves and then I turned to my girlfriend (who is wondering what in $%@#&* is going on and just who is this lady) and I said to her "this is Linda and she has something in the pet traveller for you." A look of confusion was looking back at me! LOL Linda opened the traveller and handed Amber her new OES puppy! She didn't know what to say except "Oh my god, he's for me?" Amber has wanted one of these dogs ever since she was a tiny little girl when her sister's husband used to have one. She has dreamed of owning one of her own ever since and it took some fancing planning, sneaking around, and a little luck but I made her dream come true! It was actully quite nice because the owners of the father of Keno met at the airport as well to receive his new little puppy as well. We got to meet "Virgil" who is keno's dad and that was really nice! Keno was her ten year anniversary gift from me as we had be going out for ten years at the time. Through the ten years as boyfriend and girlfriend she always told me that she would marry the guy who got her an OES puppy and FINALLY after ten years we were married on July 1rst! And yes "Keno" is in some of the wedding pictures with us! Myles |

What a lovely story - I got chills reading it! Congratulations on your wedding as well as your new puppy. I'm not one to post often but thought I would this time because I think we got our dogs from the same breeder . Our "Cooper" came from Linda and Doug Smith of Edmonton - If that is where Keno came from maybe they are related! Welcome to the forum! |
Welcome to the forum!
Great story, and congrats on your puppy Virgil's two leggeds are members here too That also means your pup is a cousin to one of my dogs, Dancer |
Welcome to the board! What a sweet story about your puppy. I'm sure Virgil's uprights will enjoy hearing stories about their "grandchild" Oh, Congrats on your wedding also! |
Wonderful story. Welcome aboard. Of course we demand frequent stories and pictures,

Welcome to the forum! Great story on how you got Keno! And when you say his father is Virgil, am I correct in assuming that it's Carl's Virgil?
Pictures are our dues!! So - PAY UP!!! |
Great to see ya!
AND where's the pic from the airport??? lol Virgil and Dawn (Keno's sister!) Would like to welcome him to the forum....and we'd like pic pic pics! Did he have a nice birthday? Dawnie got the usual double cheeseburger from McDonald's. So glad you could make it here! Congrats on the wedding. AND Paulette you must post more often....tell us about your pup! I'd love to see if he/she is one of Virgil's also. Later! |
I am pleasantly surprised to see these OES folks from Ontario suddenly popping up!
I'm not sure where Harrow is, but Picton is just the other side of Toronto from me. Welcome to the forum, eh!!! Keno would be just a couple months younger than my Bosley...( who was a Quebec SPCA pup, so no relation)... Yes, we need pics! |
Michele, Cooper is not one of Virgil's, I think Cooper is about 2 and a half now? Maybe almost 3....
Nicole, Harrow is about 20 minutes from Windsor. |

How wonderful! Welcome! |
Welcome! And yes we are addicted to photos |
Wonderful story, and welcome to the forum!
I'm also pleasantly surprised at how many Ontario folks there are on the forum. I'd never seen an OES in my entire life until I visited a breeder. We'll have to plan an OES picnic in Ontario next year! |
Hi,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your story with us! Your g/f is a lucky girl to have found someone like you! Of course most of us agree that the temptation of a new OES puppy would make anyone jump at the chance of marriage. Yup...win/win situation for all involved including the pup who sounds as if he's in a great home. Can't wait to hear of upcoming adventures of the little tyke and of course pics...we love them! Marianne and the boys |
What a great story!
And yes we need pictures!!! Also congrats on your marriage, and welcome to the forum |
What a response! Thanks for the wonderful welcome here! This is an excellent site!
I am also pleasantly surprised to see how many people are from Ontario as well! Up until we picked Keno up at the airport, I had never seen a real live, in the fleash sheep dog before so I was quite amazed when Keno was actually in our hands and THEN I met Virgil! I was like WOW, no wonder she loves these dogs! You know I don't think I got the name of the other OES that was in the van with Virgil though because I was quite excited myself (although I tried to look cool and calm to my "wife" hehehe) Of course we have a thousand pictures by now LOL. Is there a way to upload them right in our threads or will I need to make a photo album or something? I don't see an attachment option when we post messages. I really like the picture I took of Amber sitting at the Pearson airport terminal with this "look" on her face as she's staring me down wondering what we are doing there at 6:00am............... Priceless! Hehehehe! Myles |
If you check out the pictures section of the forum there are step by step instructions on how to upload pics |
Thanks Willowsprite,
I am on a hundred different forums and they're all just a little different in their options. I will check it out! Myles |

LOL, that's excellent!
Actually all the other foums I'm on have absolutely nothing to do with OES at all. HEHEHE Unless you can associate aerial photography using radio control helicopters to Old English Sheepdogs! Myles |

Well, now that you mention it, I've always wanted to see a picture of a sheepie taken by a radio controlled helicopter! You now have an assignment for the weekend! |
Welcome to the forum. Hopefully you will find that this is a great group of people with lots of advice for things you run across.
Welcome again from Louisiana. |
R/C Helos! How cool is that? I could open up a new section for that! |
That story is the best! And your dog is Gorgeous. We got Copper on July 1st so that's a big celebration day for us too. We celebrate it as his birthday since his real birthday is a mystery. This year though we celebrated on July 4th with Frosty Paws.
Ten years? Wow, we were together 5 and I thought that was a long time before getting married. Hubby was married before so no rush. I always knew we'd be married so it didn't matter to me. That's got to take the cake an engagement WITH a Sheepie. Love to see the photos of the wedding with the Sheepie. Welcome. |
I've always wanted an r/c chopper.. they look so cool. I'd have to buy one for my kids though, and then tell then they can't play with it LOL MINE. |
