Just want to ask if a bitch is mated is there any reason to stop giving them if they are in whelp? No, no preggie sheepie yet am planning that for the new year, but want to know if to continue the cranberries with her if and when she is in whelp? Is that the right thing for her or not to continue to give the cranberry supplement if she happens to be pregnant next year? |

Good question. I don't know. The cranberry is keeping the pee acidic.....why would that cause a problem?? Also the dog is getting Vitamin C, something vets used to say they didn't need as supplements, but newer vets think perhaps they do.
Maybe you could write or call the Solid Gold people.....who make the berry powder. Or of course, ask you vet |
Hi Lisa,
I'm not sure of the answer either regarding taking the supplements when a sheepie is pregnant. Just wanted to toot the merits of cranberries however, as I've had many conversations with those in the health care about them. Cranberry juice is often given to children with disabilities or those whom have problems with their urinary tract. They are also recommended by the Small Animal Rescue to give as treats to bunnies and guinea pigs, especially the latter as those little guys need a diet high in Vitamin C. I buy a bag of dried cranberries at the bulk food dept weekly. Good for people too! High in Vit C like you mentioned! Let us know if you find out any more info. Marianne and the boys |
