FLEAS

How soon can I put a second application of frontline on the dogs? We are having a huge flea problem, they are jumping on the grass in the neighborhood. I applied frontline to the dogs but, they are still scratching like crazy. I am all bitten too, so I'm sure they are in the house.. I vacuumed and washed everything, but I don't think it did the trick.
I've have never had this problem before.

If they are in the house you have to bomb it. Just sweeping won't do the trick. I don't know about the frontline. follow the instructions I guess. Maybe you could give her a flea bath?/

i am sure someone else can help you more
you can also callyour vet. They have a pill you can give them (don't remember name) that will kill all the fleas on the dog within an hour. But i would bomb the house first......The pills cost about $5 a piece
Capstar (nitenpyram) :D
http://www.1800petmeds.com/pselect.asp?LV=51&PG=Capstar
Capstar is a once a day medication approved for use in the treatment of flea infestations on dogs and puppies, cats and kittens 4 weeks of age or older and at least 2 pounds of body weight. Capstar is safe to use in pregnant or breeding animals. Capstar is fast acting. Capstar begins to kill adult fleas on the pet within 30 minutes and the effect lasts for 24 hours. Pets may scratch as a result of the fleas dying. It is not a reaction to the medication itself. There are no known drug or food interactions. This medication treats the pet only. To properly control fleas all pets must be treated and the outside and inside environments also need to be treated to prevent a reoccurrence.
Rescues use it a lot here in the south...
Diane...fleas
If they are in the house, you will probably have to flea bomb to kill them. Read the instructions carefully, if you have small children or other pets, you may want to move them to another location while you bomb. they are tricky buggers to get rid of once they have infested inside... We had to do this when I was a kid... my first cat had fleas as a kitten... NOT FUN!!!
The Capstar definitely works! I have used it successfully on Puddy and my Aussies when they were still with us. You will notice almost immediately a reduction in the scratching. I alway put Puddy out for an hour or so after giving it to him. I am paranoid and afraid that some will just jump off in the house instead of dieing.

As for the house, you will definitely have to bomb. We had them in the house a month or so ago and we set out bombs and they worked. They can be a real pain in the backside to get rid of. The package recommends cutting off all ventilation for at least one hour.

Check with your vet. Frontline is once/month only.

Do not over use it! Its formulated for your puppies weight and
is a strong medicine.

Great suggestions and advice above. Your vet can help you
decide what is best in your situation and area.

Good luck!
When I got Daisy last summer, she was 3 mos old and the vet put her on Frontline Plus. We continued to have a lot of problems w/ fleas during the first 3 mos even w/ flea baths in between Frontline treatments every 3 weeks (per vet recommendation).

After a few months when it got really bad, the vet switched her to Advantage and the problem stopped.

We never had an infestation in the house (have been there before so know how bad it can be) and the cat was not having a problem, just Daisy. I don't know if she was picking them up outside or from other dogs, just know it was terrible.

I kept her on the Advantage until a month ago and (after also moving), put her back on the Frontline. The vet here said it may just have been the fleas where we were before had a tolerance to the Frontline.

We switched back to try it because of the tick control the Advantage does not provide and vets recommendation. We're still hoping it will work, but it's only been a couple of weeks, so am not sure yet.
