It claims to be all natural & reduce absorbation of carb calories for overweight dogs. No need for exercise or change of diet. Sounds to good to be true? I'll use it myself, sue |

I don't know anything about that product but I did have a good experience putting Chummie on a diet. The key was to add about 1/3 cup of canned stringbeans or other veggies in place of kibble at one meal of the day and to switch her biscuit treats to the puppy sized Mother Hubbards (other brand puppy-sized treats are still too big). You don't want to overdo the veggies but a little bit helps the dog feel full on fewer calories.
Since you basically control what the dog eats, putting them on a diet is not that hard. Just avert your eyes from their pleading looks. Chummie lost 15 pounds in just a few months. To maintain her weight, I feed her 1 cup of kibble 2x per day and various treats and chewies. She has kept the pounds off although the prednisone is making her ravenous. Depending on how much you are feeding, you might see good results just by adjusting the daily ration with no need for supplements or other efforts. Good luck! |
I vote string beans too since Glacier lost 60 lbs on the green bean diet. Being larger, she got 1/2 can in a.m. and the other 1/2 at night with her reduced kibble amount. I would suggest, salt free string beans. They get more than enough salt in their kibble....you don't need to add more.
Actually in summer when the garden is going great guns, the veggies will be raw or just lightly steamed.......so zucchini is another good addition. |
