Maggie's Downhome stylin

OK, I got a little carried away with my new clippers. It is hard to know when to say "when"! She was pretty matted but then I kept trying to even things out. . .

Here she is:

And here's her flat top:

You can't really see it but it looks cute/funny in person. It is definitely not glamorous but I am pretty happy with the results for my first time. . .

You did GREAT!! She looks so cool!
Do you mean cool? Or Cool?

she has skinny legs!!
She looks cute, though :)

When mine get shaved down this low I call them "Slick." They seem to know I'm "funnin" with them. Plus they get extra rubs and I enjoy the smooth feel. The hair grows out quickly, before you know it you'll have a fuzzy dog again.

Good job Val!!
It is so funny to see who skinny there are, under all that fur

You did a good job, Val. Looks all nice and even! Maggie must LOVE it. What are you going to do with all the extra "non-grooming" time you will have for the next couple of months??

I never realized how much of her legs was fur before! She's got little chicken legs. ;)
It's amazing really how little they really are under all that fur.

Good job with the clipping - she looks ready for the summer now.
She looks great!
Looks like a great job on the paws, too!

Kewl!
I think she looks Pawsitively beautiful!!!!! Her feet look great!!!!

It's always a bit of a shock to me as to how skinny (in a good way), Murphy is when he first gets clipped.
Cracks me up how thin they are under that hair! Great job, Val.
Val, I just let out a very loud...Ha.... :D Maggie looks really good, you did a much better job than I did the first time! Her legs are VERY small and chicken like 8O (kinda like mine)..lol..You did a fantastic job on her feet...wanna come over and show me how you achieved that???
She does have skinny chicken legs!! A couple of people who I thought knew my dogs pretty well called her Chumley! LOL. Apparently, they were distinguishing between them based on the legs (rather than the obvious color differences in their faces!)

Re her feet, thanks!! I have to give credit to Maggie because she was extremely patient. I did the grooming over several days and I would do a little on a foot, then focus elsewhere when she got twitchy. I just kept swiping away at them whenever she would let me. I picked up and held onto her foot and leaned against her to keep it steady. I was actually planning to get the 7/8s blade to get the last little bit of fur between her toes. . .

I'm telling you, I don't know when to say when.
You did well, nice and evan and her tootsies look great. Gosh I love her face, always so cheeky :D
Great job Val!!
Her cut looks a lot like Rags' cut. But her hair has grown out a bit now. I cut Rags' face a bit shorter than Maggie.
Did you use a #10 blade? The #5 is a bit longer and not as drastic of of cut...meaning her legs wouldn't look as skinny.
I just did Pepsi today with a #5.
When you shave them down....the truth come out. Skinny legs....etc
Pepsi is definitely still overweight. I was hoping some of it was his coat. Looks like it's time for a diet. Maybe I'll put them both on the Lite formula and give Ragsy extra treats :D
Wow I just wanted to say you did a fabulous job with Maggie's do
I didn't know OES were that skinny.. it looks like a totally different breed

I used the 10 on her legs and chest because they were truly matted into felt right to the skin. I used a 3 on her face, neck and her back. Next time, I hope the shave doesn't have to be as drastic. I will try the 5 and see how it does. Also, next time, I will shave her before the muck-lovers vacation. . .

Thank you! It was actually kind of fun. I learned alot about her body that I think will help me groom her better too. Different textures of fur and different nooks and crannies where it seems to grow longer or get more tangled than in other places.

Its true! Lots of people have been asking what kind of dog she is. And they've been getting my two dogs mixed up because I guess they were just looking at the haircut and not other obvious features (color, size, etc.)
 yes, there are many different hidden crannies

Good job. I think you'll like the #5, but keep the #10 handy for those "hidden crannies."

When shaved down people ask if they are greyhounds w/o tails! Then they see Jack try to run and that ends that discussion  (Jack's front left swings to the side before going forward and the rear doesn't quite get in time with the front. The only time he stretches out is on the bed.)

Good job, Val! I am very impressed with your first trim job. I always have so much trouble with the feet.

Now, are you going to be doing all the grooming yourself?
It is short, but with the July and August heat I am sure Maggie doesn't mind. I love sheepdogs of all hair lengths. She is still a cutie :hearts:
