Announcing Panda - Canadian Pet Idol Finalist!
Well it was an amazing day, a film crew, hundreds of dogs and uprights vying for Canadian Pet Idol. I now understand how the contestents now feel from those Idol shows...long.. long wait. We arrived at 10 am and at number 76 we didn't get on until aprox 4:30 pm. Panda placed FOURTH!!! Plus an interest in the movie industry by their trainers. 1st place went to an amazing sheltie whom raised his hands and then fell over pretending to play dead, as well as a host of other amazing feats such as walking backwards in a zig zag motion. 2nd place went to a poodle who actually said the words "yum yum" when given a treat..as well as other niffy things. 3rd place went to a parrot who talked and sang. 4th place went to Panda whom moved to the theme of the "Adventures" (kinda James Bond thing) did circles, jumped and bounced balls back to me via his nose. We won a huge basket of goodies, a ribbon, toys and a possible movie contract! Will post the pics soon! I'm so proud of Panda as he performed amazingly well for his debut in front of hundreds of people. We only practised his routine for 4-5 days! Aprox 100 pets were in the talent portion of the contest. (Lol as a performer I usually cringe when people say that!) Yeah Panda!!!!! Marianne and the boys |

I've posted some photos but waiting approval. Can you tell I'm just bursting!!! I love all my boys, but for Panda to have come this far from where he was just over 2 years ago is a tribute to all the rescues out there! Being a good boy Panda shared the goods with his brothers when he arrived home..5 bags of treats, bag of dog bisquits, toys and other goodies.

That's what I was thinking too -- what a dramatic turnaround in the life of Panda. From Death Row to Talent Show Finalist. Amazing. Congratulations to you both. |

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments! Although Panda's avatar shows a big head he's been pretty complacent about the whole thing..now his mom on the other hand...hee hee. At the end of the long event, Bonnie Judd who has trained many dogs for the film industry asked that we stay, as she wanted more time with Panda. He stood out from the crowd she said, as he just seemed so laidback, obedient and very friendly and oblivious to the crowds and other animals - a good dog to have in film! She wants me to send his photos to her agency. It was very hot and a shady spot was in short suppy with so many people around, and at one point we sat in a tent with the cats!! The ladies were friendly and didn't mind Panda being in there! At one point we were gathered around in a circle, cats in their kennels and Panda in the middle of them all. The cats weren't stressed over him as he just sat quietly. Panda met a pony and sheep for the first time! As they walked by him..except for a glance at the strange creatures...he just continued to walk by them! Across the way from the activities I asked someone to watch Panda while I ran in a cafe to get a drink. The owners said, they didn't mind I sit in the outdoor section with Panda as he was so well behaved! I visited there twice during the day. One point we even had to share a table with some elderly ladies and they gushed over Panda Boy and his impeccable manners. Lastly, another big milestone!!! As you've noticed Panda (affectionately known as Pig Pen) with his wispy hair has had to be sedated a total of three times in order to get shaved. His aversion to grooming tools and expecially scissors is legendary. Well one wisp kept going infront of his eyes and with a pair of borrowed scissors I sat infront of him and snipped it. I coulda cried as he didn't flinch!! It's those things which make me the most proud of Panda and it really didn't matter if he placed 92nd or whatever, his gentle soul is what makes me so happy to say I'm his mom. (dabs eyes with tissue for emphasis) Marianne and the boys LOL no way would Merlin or Blue sit in a food establishment, or sit quietly amongst a host of animals! |

He just wants to let her know that sometimes fame changes a person (sheepdog) so he'll be there to lick up her tears if it comes to that. Marianne...those are Barney's words. I personally do not feel that Panda Boy would be changed by his fame. |

| Panda is an amazing dog........even without his early life. I completely understand your tears for this boy. He is incredible! .....and so are you for saving his life!
