A rescue group I work with has been contacted by a "Richard Joo" looking to 'adopt' dogs. He and his ring operate primarily in New York and Chicago and typically look for standard poodles, although they've recently added other breeds (including English sheepdogs and Samoyeds) to his wish list. Apparently, they ship the dogs to Korea to be used as bait in fights. He posted on the San Diego CL pet site last week, looking for dogs, and has been known to operate on New York and Chicago sites, too. He contacted a local rescue this morning for an Old English sheepdog that's up for adoption. Be careful if you're looking to rehome your pet, esp. larger breeds! |

WOW! This is very frightening. Does Craig's list have a moderator? |
Craigslist does have a moderator(s) but someone has to report the post, it won't just get pulled unless there is a blatant reason. I'm assuming this person isn't just out there soliciting dogs for dog fights.
I wonder why they have to ship dogs to Korea. Aren't there any over there? |
Now that's scary. Of all things, why would they want to get OES for fighting? or standard poodles? I guess its kind of a bully thing.... pick on the little kid, the wimpy kid, the geek. That just burns me up! |
Or it's just bunk and someone's idea of a joke. I'd take it with a grain of salt and consider the source (not the poster, Craig's list). |
Don't they eat dogs in Korea? |
They aren't fighting them, they are using them for bait dogs. The fighting dogs would 'practice' on the poodles or OES. |
Large, submissive dogs are often used to give the fighters confidence. And of cource they duct tape thier mouths closed so the fighters don't get hurt.
This is why "free to good home" is never a good idea. They are scooped up and sold and/or used for training. |
This way beyond my comprehension....how can people do this??????? there is so much sickness in the world!!! |

This is why "free to good home" is never a good idea. They are scooped up and sold and/or used for training. I can't imagine the cruelty in this - not only using them as bait, but not even giving them a chance to defend by taping their mouths closed - disgusting. What small people they must be to do such a thing. Cruelty to animals has never made any sense to me - |
OMG this post makes me sick to the gut
Initially I was thinking to myself, "they probably want to sell them to butchers" but selling these large dogs to be used as fighting bait?!?! I can't decide which would be worse!!!!!!! But please keep in mind, that most people in Korea love their dogs. I know because I'm Korean and although my family moved to the states when I was 5, I've visited many times and people really do love dogs. Things are not as organized, into breeds, by state, etc... and I don't think there is a rescue because if your dog is lost, most people despair thinking their baby got kidnapped by butchers.... but the public in general really love their dogs. Many get pampered like celebrity pets here... |
If that is true in any way shape, or form, that's inhumane and absolutely sickening. I'm completely disgusted.
There are a lot of sick puppies in this world... Michelina~ |

There are a lot of sick puppies in this world... Michelina~ Trust me it is true, evil, underground and happening all the time. There are dog fighting circles all over the United States and Canada. No need to ship the dogs to Korea, unless they are looking for a particular breed for whatever reason. Maybe it makes for a better show with a particular breed? Maybe some are worth more to watch die?.... Yes, there are a lot of sick people in this world. And people wonder why rescue organisations are fussy about screening potentioal homes. |
I did know about baiting with Pit bulls, and that's as much as I wanted to hear at the time when I saw it on tv, and learned about what really goes on.
I still have a very hard time watching "Animal Cops" on the Animal Planet channel. People are sick, and your right....I'm glad people get screened the way they do from Org's and Shelters. I just wish they ALL did it! Michelina~ |
Wow, I can't believe stuff like this happens. How sad! |
This is very sad. |
