Canadian Pet Idol Search and Serendipity
Aprox 18 years ago, I adopted a very beraggled, badly behaved sheepie from the pound. I've often spoken of the "hard nosed" trainer I first had for the obedience classes which Shaggy failed miserably. Deciding not to give up on her I enrolled for another 8 wks of classes with a women whom had a softer approach and Shaggy thrived under the postive training. You see Shaggy had been an abused dog and like Panda, needed a softer approach at first in order to learn to trust. Shaggy went on to become a therapy dog, and we even were placed under contract for three years with the Humane Education Society to educate the public on dog behavior. I always felt I owed it all to that woman that made such a difference in her life. 16 years later.....I'm walking in a parking lot with Merlin when a car driving by pulls over. Woman says she represents the movie industry and would like to represent Merlin. I send her his photos and get a call for an ice cream commercial a few months later. Oops! Had I known I wouldn't have had him clipped short a few days before..they wanted a hairy dog. Oh well. She was also interested in Panda, but as it wasn't long after his rescue, I was still concerned about his possible "issues". It was only a few months after he arrived at my home from his rescue from Hong Kong. I keep looking at the card as I had heard her name before when it dawned on me! She had been the woman who was Shaggy's trainer 16 years before! I write her and tell her how grateful I am regarding Shaggy and her success story. She writes back and tells me I gave her the best Christmas gift of all. This week...I recieved an invitation to enter Canadian Pet Search Idol. I believe the invitation was through the pet food suppy company I deal with. The staff are quite involved in all facets of animal rescue and I'm a regular customer, they know my boys. I'm deciding to enter Panda as he will do much better with the gazillion pets and owners that will be around. Plus he does a comical routine with a bouncy ball. Gasp! The judge will be the same woman I'm speaking of....serendipty or what???? Wish us luck it's this Sunday! They also have a pet owner look a like contest but no way I'm dying my hair white..hee hee Cross your fingers, legs and eyes for Panda boy!! Marianne and the boys |

Sky's half brother and half sister did commercials etc too, it's a lot of hard work and a long day for the owners. |
