They are still up at higher elevations but for two days it seems to be heading closer. I took a picture last night. Could not get a good one this evening which would have shown both the fires. Yesterday the smoke from the fire was seen as far as Vegas So far they don't have any containment of the fire. They said last night that it is burning out of control. SCARY!!! I just uploaded the picture |
|
I seen that on the news today. Mandatory evacuations also. PLEASE don't wait to long to get out of harms way, if necessary!!! I pray that won't be the case.
Nothing is more valuable than our lives and safety, well, nothing except maybe a sheepie. Seriously, if you see it getting to close, RUN. Keep in mind the traffic jams you may encounter. I learned something a few years ago when a neighbors house burned. Pine trees, when on fire, cannot be put out, they can only protect whats around them??? |
Stay safe Elissa and family, make sure you have a fire plan in action just in case you need a hasty evacuation. Hope things settle down a bit there and rain falls. Had that last summer close to home with wildfires up in the mountains. Rain finally fell to quench the out of control fire. Here's hoping the skies open there too. |
Thanks Pam for the advice. The problem so far with getting these fires out is that they are in very mountainous areas right now with no easy access. There are a few town in the way of the fire before it gets close enough to worry about. So we would have advanced warning to get out.
It's just really creepy how close it looks. Lisa, These fires are a result of lighting strikes in the High Desert last weekend. It would be nice if it rained here... But it hasn't in MONTHS!!! You can still pray for rain for us though Here is the picture from last night. This was taken from my driveway with my zoom lens at maximum which is 8x digital....whatever that equals to |

Although there is no humor in this, and I apologize, but when I seen the photo taken "from your drive way" and read..........."whatever that equals to"........ My thought was: It equals RUN! I'm sorry! I know it looks closer than it really is, but like you said thats scarey!!! Be safe!!! Our prayers are with you, and for rain to put them out. |
That looks scary! Please be ready to leave just in case! We want you safe. Oh and don't forget the turtle
Seriously, JUST STAY SAFE!!! My thoughts and prayers are with you! Make sure you have plenty of gas in your car. And if you do leave take lots of water with you and your medicine. Have a contingency plan in case you have to leave suddenly. OK, I hope I'm just being paranoid. We have tremendous smoke here from the fire. |
I hope they don't get any closer to you! |
That is so scary, E. I hate when you can actually see the flames and not just the smoke.
Maybe make a quick box with all the photo albums and stuff and put it by the door just in case you do have to leave in a hurry... I'll be thinking of favorable winds and wet weather... |
Big Hugs E. Those fires are scary. Do you have an evac plan for yourself, family and the animals? I'm sending lots of wet weather thoughts your way. |
EEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!
Wish I could send you some of our rain!!!!!! Stay safe!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
OMG, Elissa. I was wondering if the fires were near you! How scary! I'd really be happy to give you some of our humidity but I don't think it will get there quickly enough
Please stay safe and pack up some essentials and important things..just in case you need to evacuate. Hugs and kisses! |
I was thinking of you this morning when I saw them covering it on the today show. Stay inside so it doesn't get in your lungs, and turn off your swamp cooler if you have one and can stand to. |
#1 Rule:
Keep you, your family, and your pets safe! If that means evacuating, please do so. Stay safe Elissa. |
Thanks everyone!
Steph, Thanks for the suggestion about the photo albums. Good idea! I have a lot of pictures on my computer too. So that has to come also. Luckily we have two cars so we can grab quite a bit of stuff, like clothes and essentials (medication) and the photos...and the animals. As of right now the smoke is once again blowing towards Vegas and not over us. If we have to leave we plan of going to my parents house. If we can get there Both fires are a bit north of us. And that is the way we have to get out of here. |
Oh, Elissa, how scary!! I pray for your family's safety! |
Thank you Chris!!!
I just hope they get a handle on this thing quickly. One article I read said that the fire was creating it's own weather system Very scary!! |
Make sure you and your family stay safe Elissa !
I'm praying for the rain to start pouring. |
Sit your butt down and copy everything you can't lose of your computer! Same with pictures, important documents, etc. Put disks and all in box that you can grab quickly.
Also look around the house at what you absolutely must have for a minimum of 3 days and what would cause you serious problem if lost. That way if this fire moves through "flat lands" instead of mountains, you'll be able to grab and dash. It's good practice for us all.....hurricane, tornado, flood, fire, earthquakes, etc can hit any of us. |
Keep us posted. |
We saw the fires on the news here last night, they look very bad especially if the fronts join up. They said 40 homes gone so far.
Stay safe elissa and don't muck around, keep up to date on weather change especially gusty wind changes and if in doubt then get out. Stay safe. |
I just watched the news too!!
Don't take any chances Elissa!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Elissa, get your cars packed so if you have to leave you just have to grab Ryan, Hayley and the animals. I used to live in Tujunga and was there during one of the big Angeles Crest fires. We literally spent the night on the roof with hoses so the house wouldn't burn, it was really scary. Just be safe. |
If you need to run to us you can! We havent seen any of the smoke, but I know from the past that it can be very bad!!! Dont wait till the last moment to pack all of your stuff! |
How scary! Stay safe, Elissa. |
I hoping the fires don't come any closer and they are able to get them out soon.
When my sister lived in Colorado, they were in evacualtion mode for two years. She took what valuables she could, to a friend in the city. She kept "had to have things" in her car and a box of things at the house ready to go. She said the worst part was if they gave the evacuation order and she was in the the city, they would not let her back up the mountain to get her dogs. Stay safe. |
So far the fire seems to be moving north and away from us.
Which is good for us. But could be bad for others. There are some thunderheads building up over where the fire is. Maybe it will rain and help the firefighters. |
