Thanks to Jill and her crew I went right up to the fellow and asked if his dog was a Komondor? The guy broke out into a HUGE grin and was so surprised that someone recognized the breed. He said so many people think he is a labradoodle or goldiepoo ..... Konrad is 2 years old and SOOOOOO tall! I couldn't gt over the legginess! He gets his dog cut down, but he was cording on his head and sides. Of cource I didn't have my camera, but now I will try to bring it all the time! |

Wow! I bet that guy was surprised and happy.
Koms are impressive.......and massive dogs. I think we need a road trip to help Bear celebrate his 3rd birthday......by then he'll be close to his "full size." |
Cool! |
That's great! I'd love to see one, I don't even get to see OES's around here I've only seen one, which was a few weeks ago, we were in the car driving home and suddenly I yelled "OH MY GOSH!!!!" and my family were like what what what???? And I said... that was an Old English Sheepdog! They were like I thought you just saw someone get stabbed or something.... it was shaved, except it had a lion's tail It didn't click in my head until afterwards that it was unusual that it had a tail...
anyway! I never get to see unusual breeds around here, I saw a Great Pyr a couple of days ago which was beautiful! I had to do an article on any dog breed for college and I chose the Komondor, it was great fun to learn about them! |
Awesome!

I hear the same thing. Is he a golden doodle? Or a labradoodle? Or a poodle? I get that all the time too. He'd have to be on some serious steroids to be that big of a doodle dog! He better be close to full size now! When I took him down to Cleveland and could look at him against another very large Kom, he's still huge! His foster mom says he should just begin broadening now and that he should have most of his height. He's not as heavy as he looks but he accidentally head butted me this morning and floored me like I wasn't there! In the last 2 weeks his cords have really started to form and he's chunking up really nicely. He has sooo much coat. OES look like they have thin coats compared to Bear. It's very different. Nicole, how did he have him cut down? I'm picturing like an Afghan from what you described. Was it like that? |
The fellow trims Konrad himself, so he was a bit ragged looking
His coat was about 6 inches long and pretty even all over, except for clumps of knoting cords. I couldn't see his eyes, but I did scratch is head and checked out the cords on the top. He seemed quite gentle. He didn't look anything like an Afghan....more like a very tall shaggy untidy-looking standard poodle, but tall like a tall Great Dane.He just lumbered along, very lazy-like, easy-going with those LONG legs. Tail was down and swaying back and forth as he walked. Mind you it was very hot, and humid. All the dogs were only in first gear last nite. He wasn't heavy looking at all, quite lean and lanky - looking actually. Dixie was dwarfed beside him. Next time I see him I will ask where he got him, and how much he weighs etc. I was so thrilled to see him...and in awe... |
I get it. When you said he was cording on the back and sides, but also said he got cut down, I put it all together the wrong way and thought he was shaving his back! I knew he didn't look like an Afghan but I thought they gave him the Afghan cut!

Did she walk right underneath him? That's what Lucy does with Bear. I think Bear will start to look leaner once his cords start dropping. He looks really wide now because of his Afro! |
