This summer I thought wheee first time in 17 years I haven't worked during this time or gone abroad somewhere. Thinking I needed the rest..which of course I do. Then again, since I haven't spent the portion of the last three years at home during the summer....so many chores to catch up on. Cleaning the roof and gutters was one of them. I cussed loudly this past winter when the rains came and the water gushed down right in front of the back sliding door. Checklist - done! Next on the list - The rubber paint had bubbled and peeled on the back porch. Tried several products to get the horrible stuff off..tried on and off for two years. Checklist - concentrate on porch. Scraped, cleaned, sanded and repainted porch with two coats. Done! It looks beautiful! Challenging to not allow 3 dogs and 4 cats on the porch, so started to paint at 5 am. Next clean fishpond....remove contents..no easy feet as it contains bullrushes which roots are all bound together..urg..heavy. Next lillies. Remove 3/4 water and replace. Done! Take down wooden Arbor between two trees, scrub to remove green algea, sand and prepare for painting. Done! Place metal arbor from backyard to new place- leading to back gate - twine roses around it. Scrub lawn furniture, mow the grass (which was about 2 ft tall as lawn mower was broken), clean the house, and weed the front garden. 16 hours later I crawled into the house as night had fallen. Lots more on my to do list..but I'm so happy I'm on "vacation" and can get some R and R. More things on the to do list: Continue to weed front garden (all done by hand as no pesticides used) Build brick walkway and patio in the backyard Laminate front hallway and computer room. ( Did the rec room, living room, dining room and hallway last year) Replace floor in the main bathroom Install new toilet Rip up carpeting on stairs, master bedroom and upstairs bedroom, install the new carpet. Remove landscape ties and replace. Extend outdoor run for bunny and guinea pig I figure if I wrote it down for all to see, I may get finished by the end of the summer! Most of the things needed on my to do list, I've purchased in the last couple years but either never had the time or cash to have them done. Figured I can learn how to do it myself, and I have. Only thing my 100 pound frame can't do is lift the toilet tank...and lift it gently down on the seal. Okay admitedly I may need assistance to do that. Hums...I can bring home the bacon or fry it in the pan. Marianne |

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
Seems you really like that tune http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=3028
I make endless lists, endlessly.... it doesn't help me one bit, but I still like making them. |
Well my "personal" favorite is "I am woman hear me ROAR".............. the problem with the bring home the "'bacon/fry it up in a pan" song is that the next line always bothered me..............."and never let you forget you're a man".
It should say something to the effect of "you should worship the ground I walk on and be eternally grateful that I am the woman of many talents that I am" But then, I guess that is why I am not a song writer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
HAAAAA Willowsprite! Thanks for the reminder..I had honestly forgotten about my past jobs. Sheesh got tired just reading it! I forgot I had even written a post with the same title. No wonder, I never feel rested after vacations!
Well here it is a year later and the toilet isn't yet installed..sitting still in the box. A definate "must do this summer". I know how to do it..just can't lift it! Ginny I had originally titled my post..I am Woman..egads I didn't know that line existed in the song either. Have to admit I'm always a tad bemused, when I'm at the hardware store when some old fellow overhears my project and says, "you need a man." Hmph! The truth be known, I wish I was independently wealthy and could hire a good looking pool guy to clean my fishpond. (oops did I just say that outloud?) LOL Marianne and the boys |
Hire a teenager to do it!! They are usually a bit chesprt than "professional help".
I know what you mean about the hardware store!!! I took great pride in the fact that I could "do it all" for many years, WOE TO THE SALESCLERK that treated me like a dumb bunny. Now I just let Doug THINK I can't survive without him |
