What is going on ? Lights, camera, action ! By Dave Robson Evening Gazette Publicists for a major feature film have confirmed their intention to use Redcar for location shooting - and revealed the full cast list. Working Title Films has announced the start of principal photography on Atonement, directed by Joe Wright and starring Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Romola Garai. And although the final details are still being finalised, shooting will take place in Redcar which, later this summer, is set to become Dunkirk 1940. Award-winning actresses Brenda Blethyn, who played Mrs Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, and Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave also star. The supporting cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch, Patrick Kennedy, Juno Temple, Peter Wight, Daniel Mays and Nonso Anozie. Set during the summers of 1935, Dunkirk in 1940 and London in 1999, newcomer Saoirse Ronan will play the pivotal role of fledgling young writer Briony Tallis, 13. She dramatically changes the course of several people's lives by accusing her sister's lover of a crime he did not commit. The film company is working with Redcar and Cleveland Council and regional screen agency Northern Film and Media, which has launched a recruitment drive through its website for up to 1,000 extras. Contractual details are still being finalised for the film crew to use Redcar. But it's understood the transformation from Redcar 2006 to Dunkirk 1940 will be dramatic and extensive. Tourism chiefs will be hoping the film brings dramatic benefits for Redcar, both during filming and once the movie hits cinemas. Shooting will also take place in Shropshire, London and Grimsby. Working Title Films has been co-chaired by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner since 1992. Between them, the pair have produced 80 feature films, with hits including Notting Hill, Dead Man Walking, Billy Elliot, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones's Diary and United 93. Atonement co-producers, Paul Webster and Tim Bevan said: "With Christopher Hampton's beautiful script, our peerless cast and crew will create a classic British romance." Wonder if they need a couple of oes in a shot |

Wow - sounds like a complete makeover - do they have to change shop hours, things like that for shooting?! |

I don't know how they are going to do it. At the moment they haven't stopped us walking or shopping anywhere. But i can see them closing parts of the sea front off very soon. Where they are filming the most is where i walk my dogs so i might be banned off the beach |
Cool! Sounds interesting |
That would be cool to see. Brad Pitt filmed the Jesse James??? old western movie here in Edmonton last year. But they used the Fort Edmonton Park which is gated to the public, so they were in complete secrecy while filming.
I'm dying to watch the movie, the Fort is set up in 1800's, and then the early 1900's...so some of it is horse and buggy, and then the other part is old model T ford cars. As well as a steam engine train, and an old trolley. It's very cool to visit and the staff dress up in costume and make bread as if it was the time. People got see him with Angelina and Maddox at West Edmonton Mall, going on rides. |
Try for it |
that sounds really fun |
I hope they don't make your town too different.
That would be weird. Personally I think there should be at least on OES in every movie....but that's just my opinion |
ooh Redcar is only a couple of hours away from me - they were talking about that film on Radio 1 - Keira was on the Jo Whiley show. |
Cool!! You should take the puppers and apply to be extras in the movie! |
