I always think of Bedlingtons as being white only, those other colors are marvelous. Congratulations on the three cuties!

They're gorgeous. I've always thought they were just white too.
They are precious! May, like Lipizon (sp?) horses, they turn white when they get older?
I think Bedlington's are reallyreally cute and they do look like lambs! I know they are terriers, but are they terrors???

And Deborah, it's Lippizan. You were only one pee off!

All grey horses, no matter what breed, are not born grey. They eventually turn grey as they age. Bob the Wonder Pony was brown with a blonde mane and tail when he was a kid but now he's beige with brown spots--what is called a "flea bit" grey.

This ends the "color of horses" lesson for today.
LOL..Paula! those pups are too precious!!! I love the lamby look.....that would be a cool combo...one sheepie and one bedlington!!!!!

How big do they get?
Paula, you know, the Lippizans are only a couple miles from my house. Maybe one day you'd like to come up and see them perform.

Hessel has really worked hard to become a breeder. It's really
wonderful to see his first litter, the first litter of Bedlingtons in Israel.
His web site is tops and I'm sure he will update with pictures
as they grow. I adore the lamb look, would love to get one.
Bogart needs company, he's getting bored playing ball with
the 2 leggeds :D
Congratulations, How exciting :!:
They are the sweetest looking dog. It would be really cool to have a oes and a bedlington. I take my hat off to him for all of his hard work. |That is great.
Thank you all of you for all your kind wishes and words about my Bedlington puppies. You all have a great forum and I find it really nice, that you all can write about other dog breeds as well as your great breed, the Old English Sheepdog.
Thank you also Zahra about the post letting everybody know about my exciting and special news. I really do appreciate all the kind things said.

I know, many of you may not know too much about the Bedlington Terrier, besides their lambish appearance. Yes they are true terriers, but they are pretty pleasant dogs. As for the colours, I know many of you thought that Bedlingtons are only white in color.
Bedlingtons come in three colours and two marking patterns. The colours are Liver, Blue and Sandy. The patterns are solid, or with tan markings. As adults, the tan-marked dogs look identical to the solids for the most part, as the markings blend into the lighter adult coat.
Bedlingtons are born dark - blues are born black, liver and sandy dogs are born dark brown. The difference will be in the skin colour and nose/eye pigment. Blue Bedlingtons have a black nose and eye rim, with a very dark brown eye. Skin colour will be light grey. Liver and Sandy dogs have brown nose and eye pigment, and a lighter eye. Their skin is pinky-brown. The pups get lighter and lighter as they approach a year old. As 1 year olds, many Bedlingtons look white. White is NOT a colour listed in the breed standard. By two years old, they should have colour on their bodies, with lighter heads, and often lighter legs. Darker pigmentation is always encouraged. One of the more interesting aspects of the breed is how their colour is constantly changing, ever so slightly. Blues will be shades of grey. Liver is a sort of purple-brown colour, while sandy is more of a taupe. When a Bedlington's skin is cut or bruised, their coat may grow out in their birth colour on that spot. It will grow back out to adult colour over time.

Thanks again to you all,

Best Regards,

Hessel Zegal

Thank you for the informative post Hessel! :)

One of our members actually has a bedlington that they are showing.... :)
He is a blue, and I think as older pups when they have lightened and start to darken again it's interesting to see their coat color turn very similar to many OES' coat color. :)

Congrats on your litter :)
I think it must be a natural attraction to wan to get a Bedlington when you already own a sheepdog. Especially since they look like sheep. 8)
Yep, We have a Bedlington. A blue we call Jeffurry, Bluenote's Make It So. We call him a terrierist. lol

He is such a smart dog. I've never had a terrier before. Not sure they are a "normal" terrier. They are very affectionate. Jeff just adores us...especially Carl. He will stand in front of Carl and just stare....begging for Carl to say his name...he loves his name when Carl says it. When Carl says "Jefffffff, Jefffy, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff" He goes nuts and attacks his face. Licking like crazy. He loved it when we had a couch. He'd get up on Carl's head and wrap his neck around Carl's and stick his tongue up Carl's nose. lol Currently Kassidy age 11 is training and caring for him to do Jr. Handling. He will be showing just as soon as we are settled more in the new house.

I think Bedlingtons are a natural with OES. It is so funny when we go running. Virgil really does think he has a sheep to herd BUT Jeff can run like the wind! Dawnie and Jeff can't get enough of each other. They are only a few weeks apart in age. They really do the rough and tumble well together.

I would recommend them whole-heartedly. He was so easy to housetrain. He is just as lovey as the most lovey OES. Adores the kids. And like the OES need a solid leader with a firm grasp of being Alpha. Plus if you remember "A tired puppy is a good puppy"...you've got a great companion.

Everyone is correct....those are great pups. Congrats on their arrival and thank you for all your effort on this wonderful breed's behalf. And thanks Zahra for bringing this site to our attention.
