What A Difference A Day Makes
I was so exhausted after work yesterday I just crashed when I arrived home. Still recoperating from my ordeal with Merlin and sleepless night on Monday and his return to me on Tues. Today, I stopped at the pet suppy store to ask what food and toys the woman whom found Merlin purchases for her little Chihauhau..Pablo. They couldn't remember, so I asked about a gift certifcate..they don't have them. I had bought her little dog a sweater and placed some money in the gift bag as a reward, even tho she had told me previously she wasn't interested in that. Next stopped at the her complex, remembering which number she had told me she lived in. Greeting me so differently than the previous encounter..smiles and a big hug. She invited me for tea. (I was taken by surprise as I thought she still thought of me as bad mom.) I couldn't have been more wrong..lol! Apparently the word got around the neighborhood of Merlin's absence. She told me that everywhere she went on Wed, people knew of the story and each person apparently spoke highly of my devotion to my furballs. This is what caused her sudden change of heart. The funny thing was they all knew Merlin's name but many didn't know mine, but knew who I was...his mom. She opens the gift bag and starts to cry when she sees Pablos's new sweater and viewing the money she staches it back in my purse. "no", she tells me, "Merlin brought me a lot of joy in his brief encounter with me, it gave me something to do." She confided to me she had recently moved to the area and was rather lonely and had only recently started going to the dog park. So just as she had viewed me wrong I too saw that I also saw her in a different light. She showed me where Merlin slept..gasp she actually left her door open all night while he slept on her porch which is gated. Her tiny yard had remnants of a large hole dug..via Merlin which she good naturely said was needed to be dug up for flower plantings. We promised to keep in touch and planned to meet at the offleash park in the future. As I was preparing to leave we both greet a woman whom drove in. Her neighbor...and another irony..she was my neighbor 20 years ago. The first thing she said after greeting me was "are you still crazy about pets, as that's how I always remembered you". So my good parenting skills have now been reinforced once again and maybe Merlin knew this lonely old woman although quirky as she is..just needed a friend. Marianne and the boys |

Just wonderful Marianne, maybe merlin knew or sensed something about the lonliness of this women. Hoping a great friendship developes and what a wonderful story this turned out to be, so glad for the happy ending, give merlin a big hug and one for you too, you definately need that and a quiet time together after all that happened.  |

I'm glad that the lady heard a lot of nice things about you and changed her mind. The sweater for the puppy was very nice of you. I thought it was really sweet how she put a fan out to blow on Merlin so he would be cool. She is very thoughtful. The people who found my dog tied a rope around her neck and kept her outside and let the ticks pile on her for 5 days. My poor girl. |

You're so right ..it was thoughtful of her. The man that found Merlin wanted to do the same thing regarding tying a rope around his neck and she offered to take Merlin instead since she had a small fenced yard. I also thought of you during this experience and how frantic you were..not a great feeling and I can't imagine enduring it longer as you did. One day was enough anquish for me! Preacher you're also right..perhaps it wasn't a coincidence..and funny enough the day before we had walked by the pet food outlet which Merlin so badly wanted to go into but they were closed. Then another irony..I hadn't taken him to that dog park in over a year, although we used to visit it 2-3 times daily from the time he was 12 wks old to 18 months..never missed a day. Seems not only did Merlin find himself someone to take him to both those places but as a result of his being lost allowed me to meet her too. Perhaps Gandalf was right! Marianne and the boys |

Sounds like this woman is really nice. Merlin could have had so many things happen. You are lucky she took him in. You were very sweet to buy her dog a sweater. Sounds like she really appreciated it. That is weird about all the coincedences, I don't think it was that. I am true believer that everything happens for a reason. So even though this scared the heck out of you with Merlin missing.....it all happened for a reason. |
