When I got her home from the kennel, poor girl was all stooped over and miserable: Feeling a bit better on Rimadyl: I didn't take any pictures of her deterioration and collapse. She was miserable and I was too worried to document it. First night home after a week in the hospital -- looks optimistic: Yesterday -- looking almost cheerful but still a bit hesitant: And tonight -- there's my happy girl! I haven't forgotten about maggie -- my big fuzzy girl is always happy: That's all for now. I am really optimistic. about Chum's progress. Prednisone is serious and I know we have to be careful but it is awesome to see the years and pain melt away. |

She's got that sheepie smile!
You're doing great with her, Val. My dad was on and off and on prednisone for decades. You do what you have to do to keep your baby as pain-free as possible. She's lookin' good! |
Yay Chummie!! She really looks wonderful, it's amazing to see the transformation, and you must be so relieved!
Maggie looks adorable too |
lol, the set of pictures was great. It really shows how she was doing. I got a big smile on my face when I looked at the last pic of her "smiling."
Maggie looks great fluffy! |
i think chummie has one of the best smiles ive ever seen on a dog, it is great to see her look so happy! |
Val, Chummie has a great smile....its good to see her happy again...and well Maggie....oh maggie..we love ya!!!!!! |
What a transformation! |
WOW she looks so happy The last picture is definately a smiley one I am hoping all will go great for chum now, especially when you get to the stage of weaning down the dose and finding a maitenance dose that is suitable for her. Peppa had 6 months on the stuff and weaning off was done over quite a few weeks.
Hugs & cuddles to that beautiful smiley girl & so happy for chummie:D |
Thanks for all the positive comments!
It is so interesting to see how the angle of Chum's head and the distance her tongue is out of her mouth seems to reflect an increasing comfort level and happiness. Last night, when the doorbell rang, she sprang to her feet in an instant. Never before. She's favoring her right front leg, I think due to fear more than anything else at this point. If that doesn't change soon, I will probably need to work with her on that. I'm so happy to have my dog back, all smiley and new. And Maggie, well, she is a joy. A constant reminder to live in the present. |
You can so see the relief on her face!!!!! Hugs for CHummie (& Maggie) |
What great photos of a most beautiful girl!!! Just look at that smile - what could be better?
And Maggie - well, what can I say? She's just gorgeous too. You are blessed with the two of them, Val! This has given me the incentive to get back to my vet and have a serious talk with him about prednisone for Drez. She's going to be 13 in August - what do we have to loose? |
She looks so good!! The transformation is truly amazing! I just love that smile on her face and the spring in her step. |
Yay Chummie!! |
She looks great, Val! Her smiley picture brought a smile and tears to my eyes when I compared it to the first picture. I'm so happy she is feeling better and springing to her feet! Love Mags too, as always |
What a differance! Even her eyes are smiling.
So happy she is doing better. |
Aw, Chummie looks so happy. Love that smile! |
That's so great to see that she is feeling a little better! I'll cross my fingers that she continues to improve and that she does well on her new medicine. |
Love that smile! |
I just read that "inappropriate happiness" is one of the side effects of prednisone. Maybe that explains wy she is sitting there smiling at me. . . Certainly better than the alternative. |
LMAO |
Enjoy this while it lasts, Val.
Just in case it doesn't last. Thinking about it, I was thinking that I could have done it for my last dog for a week. Well, then it would have made saying goodbye so much harder. I don't know. I hope this cures Chum so much. |
Happiness is ALWAYS appropriate!! |

Absolutely. I realize there are big unknowns and other risks but I am in the take life as it comes camp. Which is why I am confident you made the best decision for Jake at the time and there is no reason to second guess it. With Chum, the hope is that this will give her years, not just a week. We will see. For Chris re Drez, I have no idea if this particular drug will help her but if the example gives you motivation to keep searching to see if more can be done for her, that's great. She has alot of life left in her front end. She's just not doing such a great job of bringing up the rear. |

LOL! Yep, that's Drez to a T!!! I am going to talk to the vet about it. Like I said - what have we got to loose? And I hope you get MANY more years from Chum because of the treatment. Like I said, our first sheepie lasted almost another 8 years when we put him on the drastic prednisone treatment. |

That's what I was thinking, too. Even if it is temporary, it's always a good thing. |
She actually walked as far as the dog park today and cheerfully greeted her human friends there. She needs to build back some muscle tone. She's very hesitant to use that left front leg. She continues to look so happy. |
Oh my gosh!!! Many times certain dogs on here have resembled my Shaggy girl but your recent photos of Chummie look identical to her. Made my heart do flip flops. What a beautiful smile she has and it did my heart good to see her looking so happy!!!!
Sending hugs her way and one to Maggie as well Marianne and the boys > who are sending sloppy sheepie kisses to the girls |
Marianne -- I am so touched that my dear Chummie reminded you of your precious Shaggy. I wish I could have known her. It is funny how a similar appearance really inspires deeper feelings of connection. I feel it often when I see pictures of Drezzie (who looks like Chum) and Dixie (who looks like Maggie). I am delighted to include Shaggy in my mental list of Chummie's soul sisters. |
Thanks Valerie!
It's ironic too that you think Miss Drezzie reminds you of Chummie as I too always thought she bore a resemblance to Shaggy at a different stage of her life. Maybe our three girls are related? Although I realize that all sheepies are in a way..perhaps ours have closer ties than we are aware of. Something to think about. Marianne and the boys |

Hi Valerie, She is beautiful as ever. Love her happy expression. Wonderful news that she walked to the dog park. You are providing wonderful care to her---what a team! Bet Maggie is smiling because Chumley is more active |
I just LOVE Chummie AND Maggie. |
Chummie does have a beautiful smile.......so glad it's back.
Fluffy Maggie reminds me of my Fluffy Jack. I'm not sure how I feel about the curly and dense coat........., but I love the dog underneath. susan |
