Hi, Congrats on your bigger place!
I moved my last sheepdog a total of 4 places. I did absolutely nothing to make him feel more comfortable than usual and each move for him he felt right at home pretty quick. The only thing that I spent time on was showing him his new yard areas each time. OES's are very adaptable dogs and you really shouldn't have any problems. |
We have moved with Abbi 4 times and she thinks it is great. Dogs, like kids, are happiest when their parents/owners are happy. Don't stress yourself out and Pisco will enjoy the extra space.
You might want to make sure that the previous inhabitants haven't left anything dangerous behind. Once one of the yards contained a mountain of dog doo, which had to be cleaned up because I didn't want Abbi getting anything(worms or diseases) or rolling in it. Did not want the kids stepping in it either. Once the previous inhabitants left medicine under a counter and both Angela and Abbi proudly showed me their find. They once found some old shoes under the bed too, but that wasn't dangerous ... and that was a furnished apartment. Do a quick survey of everything, a safety sweep. When you move you get tired and Pisco may get away from you, so make sure to keep him in his kennel or on his leash while you are moving ... or in a bathroom or somewhere safe. With people going and coming you don't need to worry about him getting out and running in the road or something. Make sure he has his collar and ID on just in case too. If you move his bed to the area you want him to stay it helps establish his new home too. Congratualtions! Hope you enjoy your move. |
thanks for the imput and advise......Carol thanks but don`t worry the place is brand new (Hubby and I are architects) we disign it and built it,Pisco sort of knows it because he has been at the site with us a lot, and Abuelita (granny) lives next door....but with moving thanks I was making boxes of stuff the other day and he had to put his head in every single one of them |
Congratualtions!!! I knew you were an archetict, but I din't know you were building your own house. That is awesome. Victor keeps sketching out what he wants. He's a civil E.
Abbi thinks a box is like a Christmas present. It needs a good sniffing and checking out! When I come home grom shopping she always goes through any bags left on the floor. Maybe I buy her too many treats? |
So tell us! How did the move go, and how is Pisco? |
Hi,
Maybe you have already moved... but I have a tip. I agree my sheepdog "Sherwood" doesn't seem concerned with moving. Once when we moved to a place that had it's own staircase. He loved it... and joyfully ran up and down it whenever he could. I find the hardest part of moving with the dog is what do do with him while actually moving the furniture etc. I found that putting him in the car where he could watch was perfect. I don't have alot of stuff and it only takes 30 minutes or so for movers to get a truck loaded. He would happily watch from the car, windows rolled partly down. He knows that if he is in the car he is moving too. He loves the car. |
