Should We Get 1 More Sheepie

Ok we have been asked if we would take/adopt another sheepie. This one is a puppy. We have the 2 boys - Sam and Lucky, how much difference can 1 more sheepie make (other than the amt of poop - lol)?

I am just not sure what to do. Ok folks I need suggestions and answers - that way if I do the wrong thing I can always blame it on ya'll

What the heck, if I can't have half a dozen sheepies then everyone else should FOR ME!!!!
If I had the room.. I would definately get another Sheepie...
Oh yes, you should get a third sheepie.

Oh, I don't know! Wait til Marianne is back from searching. I think 3 dogs could be alot harder. You only have two hands for leashes and petting. . . I love the idea, but I guess I would hesitate.
Everytime I hear about a new baby Sheepie I always want a new one. I would say definitely if you could.

I would make a pro/con list though. =P Just in case...
I have to say that having 3 dogs now is a bit overwhelming. It's more because I am still housebreaking the new one and he likes to bark at every little noise but for some reason 2 seemed much more manageable.

Pro side: Puppy & Frank are best buds now & it's so adorable to watch them play constantly.
I had the same feeling as you when I was considering Bear (not an OES but a third dog nonetheless!), like should I do this? Will it be too much? Two is definitely a lot easier than three but I don't regret getting Bear. He and Clyde are the best of pals, which is exactly what I wanted.

The first thing I's think now is how well trained are the two you have? I think that's something to consider as well as any other individual issues that your existing two may already have or could potentially have when a third dog comes along. For example, Clyde has food issues that never surfaced until Bear came around. For the first week, Clyde felt like all dry food in the house was his, no matter where it was. He'd attack any dog that would go near it. We've since worked with that and everything's much better now but it's just one of those things that I didn't see coming until it came up.

Ultimately, if it's something that you recognize is going to be some work to get everyone to play nice and you're willing to do it, you're in good shape. The one thing now that I notice more than anything is that there's a lot less quiet in the house, which can be very trying like when I'm having a migraine, for example. Food and vet bills go up too but, I don't think it's so much that that would deter me! I pay someone to pick up the poop so that isn't even an issue.

That being said, I'd do it!
THE MORE THE MERRIER!!!!
More work! :phew:
More to love! :hearts:
More to loose!

Is MORE worth it? :lmt: YES!!! :hearts:

I never really noticed the extra work as I increased the number of dogs I had, UNTIL I had one dog less.

That's when I could tell I had extra time, that I got my "dog chores" done faster, etc...........

Another advantage of having fewer is more one on one time.

The more you have, the more your life becomes "dog" only.

You should decide by priority. Do you have the time? Do you want to devote more time? CAN you??? Your age plays a role in it too. Unless you hire someone to do all your grooming, God forbid arthritis making grooming harder than it already is. Health is an issue to consider. If something happens to you, like a hospital stay, what will you do with the dog(S)?

Don't listen to anything I said!!! Go get that puppy!!! :plead:
Oh boy. A lot to consider before jumping into a pup! Make a pros and cons list. :D As much as I love my Fozzie man now, it has been rough. The house is rarely quiet now and I need to watch their interactions carefully as he's just starting to be able to defend himself against and read Annie's signals. Our walks are a total joke now. The neighbors were probably laughing their butts off at the four of us with Foz leading the pack.
I also think you should make a list of pros and cons, especially because your newest addition is still getting his feet completely settled in, right?! Let us know what you decide!!
YES! YES! YES! (talking from the heart here!)

Now for the common sense point of view from someone with 6 dogs...

Adding another dog is more work and more expense especially with a sheepie. You need to determine if you have the time to properly groom one more, if you can afford the medical expenses for one more should they need it and also there's one more license to buy. Yes, it is a bit more work and it can be wretched if the pack doesn't settle in right away (Been there! but it was in adding Panda, an 11 month old sheepie, to a pack of 5 other girls). There's more food to buy, more poop to pick up, more dogs to brush and bathe, more pills or shots to administer, more annual testing and heartworm meds and Frontline if it's used, more space they take up in the house, one more set of dirty feet to clean up or clean up after. And with three you will officially have a "pack". And if you leash walk your dogs you will need to be able to control all three or be willing to rotate dogs.

But then there is one more to love and to love you back.

If you go in with your eyes open and understand the additional work and expense, then by all means adopt another! BUT first you have to tell us about this little pup that might be getting us all in trouble :D AND PICTURES! PLEASE post pics if you have them :D
We are picking her up this Friday. See post under Pictures:

You know the old saying "two's company, three's a crowd!!" and what a wonderful crowd it is :D

I miss having three sheepies and did not notice much difference in caring for two or three. Just more expense in feeding and vet care.

One suggestion is try and space out the ages in them so they are not all elderly at the same time, if like me and you loose one to old age then you still have younger ones to fuss and care for.

My friend kept three from a litter and they are all elderly now so hard on her at the moment and no more sheepies for her at the moment due to old age care which can be quite expensive with added vet bills and looking after her golden oldies. :(
