My question for you all is where is a good places for a potty/playbreak roughly 4-5 hours from Philly -- somewhere in Connecticut maybe off 91 or 84, perhaps Massachusetts Turnpike. . .Ideally, I'd like to find a park where I can let Maggie run a bit. . . And how about someplace in New Hampshire / Maine border? All suggestions welcome! |

About 30-40 miles north of Hartford on I-84 around exit 69 is the Willington rest area. Not much more than a nice large and clean 24hour rest stop, but it's grassy and woodsy and is always a favorite of ours, and was always a huge favorite of Jake's.
If you stop there, in either direction, you can say hello to Jake for us... The rest areas in Massachusetts, especially along the Pike are more utilitarian. EDIT: Here's a GREAT page from Connecticut with all of their rest areas: http://www.ct.gov/dot/cwp/view.asp?a=1390&q=292578 |
That sounds perfect! We will celebrate Jake's spirit. . . So nice to know we will be walking in his footsteps. Thanks for the tip. |
It was perfect! What a nice, big field for walking! All those trees for sniffing too. The girls really loved it and I thought about Jake while we were roaming. And it just so happens that a boy scout troop was having a fundraiser there so hotdogs and other snacks were available. Thanks for the tip. |
Glad you enjoyed it!
Yup the Scouts are there to raise money and give drivers a "coffee break" mosre frequently on holiday weekends though. You up in Maine now? Where 'bouts? |
We spent the weekend with friends who live just outside of Portland. We went to a gorgeous park with a river and Maggie actually followed my friends' dogs into the river and swam!! This morning, we drove up to Spruce Head, which is just south of Rockland. It is so beautiful -- foggy ocean view with islands and lobster boats. The girls love it, sniffing everything, chewing grass, etc. I will be sure to take some pictures. . . |

I love Maine... Have fun up there for me!! |
