Hello,
My names Yvonne and I live in Hull, England with my two OES Ellie and Bracken. I joined a little while ago but haven't had ant spare time recently to get on my pc as my daughter and baby grandson have been ill so I've been at hers house quite alot and of course the rest of my time went on Ellie and Bracken. Very pleased to say they are both fine now.
Ellie is expecting her first litter on 17th, got her final scan at vets tomorrow, crossed fingers all is still ok. I am excited and but getting more apprehensive as the delivery date approaches!!! Keep doubley checking I've got everything organised. I must say I am new to being on line and think this site is brilliant! I will try to figure out how to post a picture of Ellie and Bracken. I have had OES all my adult life, my children grew up with our dear departed Tasha. It has been a dream of mine since childhood to have a litter of OES. Is that detrimental to by children? But haven't had the time before. I have had to retire early from work on health grounds so I've got plenty of time now. Was planning on next year as Bracken is only just one and still a bungle of mischief so I will definately have my hands full!! He's the first boy OES I've ever had he looks just as cute as Ellie but he is so smelly!!!! Such a shock after years of female OES's who get that doggie smell every now and again but Bracken absolutely reaks within days(if not hours) of a bath!!! They both get a quick daily groom and a "good" groom at least weekly but it makes no difference to Bracken aka The Hairy Monster, because of his mischievious ways.
Guess I've wrote miles too much, did say I'm new to this!! But also excited at finding other OES owners don't know any locally. Haven't even bumped into any other OES owners on our days out ever. In Scotland last spring Ellie and I went up Ben Nevis and to Loch Ness ect and where ever we went she was such a bit attraction and she loved all the attention. Well I digress, better shut up or no one will want to reply. Daren't post this now  gabbed on so much!! Well here goes deep breath and hit the submit button...

As far as the gabbing goes I do quit alot just not on the keyboard so much because of my typing skills or lack of them  I look forward to seeing pictures and hearing more about your Gang. The Forum is really a friendly place 8)
Yvonne,

Welcome, I have friends over in Glasgow, are you any where near there?

Congrats on the upcoming litter of little sheepies. It must be so exciting. I just caught the TV show on Animal Planet a week or so ago, showing the a sheepie mom "Skyler" prebirth to post birth of her 9 puppies. It was really great. It showed her enjoying time with her hubby "Samson". She loved to swim and the two of them would hop into their local pond and play together. He was a very caring dad to be. She started having puppies at 5 pm and was still having them at 5 am. Toward the end Skyler was very tired and they felt she still had more puppies and eventually checked in with the vet and took her there to be helped out a bit more medically as she did still have a couple more in her. Eventually she got thru it all and was a wonderful mother. Very laid back and even Samson came over to the welping box to check her and the puppies out.
They showed the puppies up to about 6-8 weeks and how they interacted with the children in the neighborhood and were eventually sold to us waiting sheepie parents. I don't know if you get this over in England or not, but it was a great show.

I always wanted to do the same as you but just don't have the time or space to be given to such a venture. So I totally commend you on this.

Keep in touch on how it all goes along.
Hi Yvonne, Ellie and Bracken,

Welcome to this forum and I have no doubt you're going to love visiting on a regular basis. We like people like you!! Lots of things to say and besides I am always long winded..hee hee.

We love to hear stories about Sheepies all over the world and stories of their people too. Can't wait to see pics of your family.

Bye for now!
Marianne
Hello Again,
Ellie's scan went really well! Pups had doubled in size since her last scan! It was amazing to see the little heart beats and you could clearly tell they are pupies this time! Worrying bit is that I am attatched to them already and thet're not here yet!!! :) But two "sheepies" are enough for me when I use my head instead of my heart!! I put "sheepies" because I'd not heard them called that before I joined the forum! Over here, I don't like it, but majority of people refer to them as Dulux now, due to the length of time they've been used in the adverts for the paint. I like "sheepies", it sounds cute and a lot less of a mouth full then OES! Used to like bobtail, until met an absolutely awful man named bob!! No offence to any other bob out there  I'm sure your not all like that guy!! :)
Ellie is scratching her bedding up as I type! I am excited and nervous and wake up at every little movement she makes during the night! Will be so releave once they are safely here! And Ellie is OK!! Ooops going on a bit again! Will let you all know when pups arrive. And thank you for the warm welcome!! :D
Hi Again!!
 Forgot to say, Hull is in the north east of England, on the north bank of the River Humber, about half hour drive from east coast. Glasgow is in the south west of Scotland. Know this only too well as Ellie and I went round and round Glasgow last year, trying to get home from our holiday at Ben Nevis!
Yvonne that is so exciting! I can't wait to hear more about your experiences with Ellie and her babies!
I wasn't aware that male oes were smellier, but it makes sense, if they're not fixed. The only male dogs I've owned through my life were golden retrievers, who were all fixed, so I don't think they were any smellier than other dogs. Maybe if Bracken was clipped to a puppy clip it would give him a chance to "air out" a little more? I'll have to look into this, as I plan on owning my own male oes sometime in the next few years... does anyone else know more about this?
Hi Yvonne, Funny that they call Old English Sheepdogs Dulux in your area. In our neck of the woods they call them the "Shaggy" dog from the Disney movie Shaggy DA. Good luck with your puppies.

Willosprite: My male OES that passed never smelled, except for his bad breath his last couple of years. I notice that my new male puppy does have a distinct musky odor to him. Is that what you guys mean when you say "smelly"? I was wondering if it's because I have the pup on Eukanuba vs Science Diet that my passed dog was on.
Hi everybody,
Just a real quickie to let you know Ellie has had her puppies, 3 boys and 7 girls all delivered at home, they are gorgous, but then again I'm bias!! Ellie had to go in for a ceserean for the last puppie, who was side ways on and sadly didn't make it. Must get a bit of sleep now as I've been up 48 hours and I have to feed pups by hand every two hours as Ellie still a bit groggy from the op. I am so pleased and proud of her. No doubt I will bore you all with stories on how it all went when I've had some sleep! nite nite for now
Yvonne,

Give big hugs to momma Ellie & papa Bracken on their new brood. Sounds like you deserve some hugs too for all your time spent with Ellie. Sorry to hear of the one loss. We all probably wish we were closer so we could give you and Ellie a helping hand with the babes.

Keep us posted on how they all progress. Now get some rest while you can.
I've been to busy to get online this past week. Nice to meet you Yvonne. I'm very new to this forum also. I hope I don't ever insult anyone if I don't reply back right away. I dont check my messages everyday cause of work and just busy busy busy. I know what you mean about your male having an odor. Mine doesn't always but my Sheepie had a mat on his belly that he wouldn't let me get at and it directed the flow of his urine onto his front legs. Yuck . We had lots of company at Easter and my mom told me he smelled like a skunk. I knew what it was but it was embarresing so I played along with the theory. Yes mom maybe he did get sprayed a little. We do have skunks out here at night. He finally did let me get rid of that mat and now were ok again. No more smelly belly. Does anyone know what I could do about the mud track I have aroun my swimming pool where there used to be grass. I don't want to disrupt my puppies fun. I thought maybe putting small pebbles around there might work but I don't want to hurt their paws. I have to figure out something . Planting grass again would probably be pointless I think it would get torn up before it had time to grow. Any Ideas
Desperate herbgirl???
Hi Willowsprite,
I'm not 100 percent what kinda odor everyones's talking about either . This is the first sheepdog i've ever had . I think my problem with my male is his urine has strong odor. At times he is peeing on himself. Also when my female Aussie goes out to pee she is his role model ,Thats how he got trained by observing her. He tries to go in the exact same spot as her .The problem is he doesn't wait till she's done and he sometimes goes one her. But most of the time he does't have an odor.
No dog could smell worse than my whippet , golden retriever mix that had to be put to sleep. He had terrible skin allergies and smelled like cheese curls . I loved him to death anyways. The veterinarian never saw a dog with such severe allergies. I had to give him shots and feed him kangaroo and potatoe dog food. I just recently visited the over the rainbow bridge website I don't think i can check it out anytime soon again.
It brought back bad memories. I feel grately saddened for any of you that hve suffered the loss of a dog lately and offer my sincere condolences. Take care and catch you later herbgirl. Hope there aren't any English teachers on this website . I tend not to end my sentences in the right place , Hope you all can decipher my posts . To lazy to fix
Tam Welcome to the forum and glad to meet you :D Around your pool I would just suggest paving it with some sort of stone. First of all you are right about grass, it is impossible. Second, no rocks because Drake loves to chew on them. So if it were me I would just pave the whole bloody pool area, makes for a great lounge area. One more thing, without rocks, sand or grass your pool is a whole lot easier to keep clean 8)
