Do you have a picture? What kind of perfume does it remind you of... citrusey, rosey? What shape are the leaves and the flowers??? There are lots of blooming trees which have white flowers and can get big: apples, magnolias, citrus (not in NY though probably!) cherries, plums and pears are white too (I think)... plus lots of others |
Could be cherry blossom, dogwood....doubtful for Magnolia, they are past their bloom and are white and pink/red |
could be lilac - since it's the time of the year (especially in Rochester) |
Locust trees are flowering here. They have small white flowers and smell heavenly! |
Don't know if they come in tree form or not, but another white flower with a nice fragrance is the gardenia. |
Sigh...oh the smell of gardenias is heavenly!
Another tree...(rather a very huge bush that grows tree-like) is the Buddlia - latin name, common name is Butterfly Bush which blooms in the summer for long periods and is a magnet for butterflies. Looks like Lilac and smells like baby powder! Not sure if grows in your area or not. They come in a variety of colors ranging from Black (really dark purple) to white. Mock Orange also smells wonderful..but also a large bush , fragrant white blooms. Good luck with finding out what it is! Marianne |
The linden tree also has a beautiful smell and it is flowering right now in Southern Ontario....can you get a pic of the tree and/or leaves close up? |
Got Sheep !! your right it is a locust tree. Had to ask my neighbor who has one and she told me. Thanks to all of you for your ideas. Now the darn tree is shedding it white fllowers and its like snow all over our yard. |
