Now that it's installed (sorry, no pics yet) it makes it's own filtered ice, and delivers up nice cold filtered water, and it's a little more quiet since it is in between some cabinets. Now that I have cold water through the door, I don't have to have a gallon of water taking up space in the firdge, and I don't have to have trays for making ice taking up space in the freezer. Both of these features are new to us, we've never had anything automatic or through the door before. It is a side by side refrigerator so I don't have to bend over to see the top shelf of the fridge section. If I had a bottom mount freezer I'd be bending over to see what is in the freezer. Joan is very good at allowing me to have the top shelf or two in each side for things that I access often. The Whirlpool "Fast Fill Technology" fills a cup of water pretty quickly. |

After having our side-by-side for the past 5 years, I don't think I could live without one. I love them too! The filtered water and ice is something we take advantage of a lot here too. |
Congratulations on the new appliance! It's funny what things make us happy. |
Which whirlpool is it? What color did you get??? Brian wont let me have h2o in the door...he had a bad water leak experience with one so now we buy our ice at mcdonalds... |
Once I bought my first fridge with Ice & water dispensers I don't know how I ever lived without one. I do not miss having to fill up the ice trays one bit. |
Congrats on the new fridge! Sounds just grand! |
So does Mulligan know how to fill his own water dish yet? |
Or get ice cubes?!? |
How bout get water AND ice cubes AND bring them to Ron and Joan |
Congratulation whit your new refrigerator, it’s just a fridge like that I’m wanting but it will ruin our kitchen, so we have been looking for a water and ice dispenser without the fridge…. |
Quote: What color did you get???
hehehe... I love all the new trends/styles we can get our appliances in nowadays! |
It's a Whirlpool Gold Stainless Steel model.
Here's a picture of it sitting way across the kitchen while we were remodeling. (If you click on the picture, a really huge version will pop up (remember, turn off your popup blockers for oes.org, we have no popup advertising here) and you can see the fridge pretty good!) http://photos.oes.org/displayimage.php?pos=-5432 |
Yeah Ron! Finally...this seems like it's been going on forever.
Question...what are the other types of fridges? Aren't they all side by side? |
Steph,
There are the ones with the freeze on top, fridge on the bottom. Also Fridge on top, freezer on the bottom. Then the side by side. Freezer section next to the fridge. |
and dont forget the new french door refer...double refer doors on top and a pull out freezer on bottom
Ron are you finding the stainless steel a pain to keep clean...ie nose prints, finger prints etc? |
I can't see the picture! Says the file doesn't exist. Boo-hoo! |
Sorry, try now!

OOOOOOHHHHH.....
SHINY! I'd like a new fridgy, our is from the 80s I think, but it still runs so it is lower on the buy me list |
Flashy!!
Karen, Most electric companies offer a rebate if you upgrade to a new energy efficient model. You'd also save so money on your bill since the older model use more energy than the new ones. We got $150 rebate on our Fridge and a $50 rebate for recycling the old one. |
Thanks E! I'll keep that in mind when we get ready to replace |
Re: Fingerprints on stainless steel
Yes, they're a nuisance. I've learned to grab only by the handles. Joan seems to have, um... er- grasped that concept as well. Mulligan's nose hasn't figured it out yet, but he's not allowed beyond the island, so that only happens when we open the door too quickly and his nose just happens to get in the way. |
I want one.
Our last house we had to buy a new fridge, but it was placed across the kitchen away from the sink, so away from all pipes. We couldn't have a water/ice dispenser, and couldn;t afford a way to make the pipes go across the room. So we got a white one, basic type to match the other appliances. I think it is Whirlpool? Or Maytag? |
Oooooo Ron, I love your new fridge..ooo lala.. it's some sexy!!!!
I have SS appliances.. and to answer your question Darcy.. it does show it's fair share of dog slobbery.. but a quick squirt of windex and a wipe with paper towel and its as shinny and sexy as ever....I sit in my livingroom sometimes and gaze out into the kitchen at the stove and fridge and dishwasher...I love them. I think I need therapy |
The reason that I am asking....Even though I am a kitchen designer, I find that doing your OWN kitchen is not so easy....this is where I am at..
1. white cabinets with very large crown molding and antique glass doors 2. apple green with bronze glaze concrete countertops 3. farm house sink 4.white subway tile on the backsplash here is my question...I have a 1944 chambers range (very cool) it is white on the sides and front ..the top is shiney steel....with black grates...we need a new fridge...should I stick with white or do I want to consider stainless????????? |
Darcy, what color is the sink....stainless steel, or the white ceramic?
Dishwasher? How about a built in fridge, where the doors have the same front as a cabinet would? My aunt and uncle bought all new appliances in red...designed to be old, and gas stove...I LOVE it. They have the farmhouse too. Can you buy a retro fridge to match the "look" of the stove. |
Darcy...post some more good kitchen pics.
It sounds like stainless steel might not fit well with the rest of your kitchen decor. If you had all the money in the world you could get an old fashioned looking fridge to match the stove/oven. Otherwise lots of pics might help people help you decide. Also...I have all stainless appliances. I don't mind fingerprints and noseprints, and only wipe it down occasionally. However...my mother would have a heart-attack trying to keep it clean...so if you are a neat freak it could be a painful experience for you. Amanda |
Ok, here are some pics of the fridge in place.
At some point the kitchen will be finished and cleaned so I can take pics of the whole job, but here is the fridge. The front doors curve way out and are taller than the case, completely hiding the top of the fridge. The cabinet to the right had to be moved three inches to the right, the cabinet above had to be made almost 1 inch shorter and 3 inches wider. From the right, looking into the kitchen From in front From the left looking out of the kitchen. Looking dead on at the fridge the brushed stainless reduces reflection, but at a really severe angle it's almost like a mirror. If you notice in the last one, looking towards our office, you can see a little bit of Mulligan lying on the floor. If you look really carefully at the right hand refrigerator door just past the handle, you can see Mullie's reflection! Here is just his reflection: Larger size pics are available if you just click on my camera icon. |
That looks very nice Ron.
Amanda |
nice fridge!!! the sink is going to be white ceramic...I cant put a cab above the fridge because of an airvent issue..so fridge would be free standing...i like the rachael ray fridge in her show 30 min meals..in fact that is my stove exactly but in white instead of yellow....
that is a gynormus fridge ron!!! |

Darcy: I can't find the one they have, but if I do I'll post it. Their stove is similar to this one. You can build a stove here too...very cool. Is this the one you have? http://www.applianceadvisor.com/images/ ... ochure.jpg Our farm one looked like the cream and green one near the bottom, except it was white and black. http://www.antiquestoves.com/wood%20cook%20stoves.htm Sorry can't help with the fridge things, but if it has to be free standing then I love the idea of the retro one, nice rounded edges. |
Great fridge! We also have a side-by-sdie Whirlpool - we LOVE it!! |
What size refer Ron? I'm torn between a side by side and a french door with bottom mount freezer..slide out. My bending over days are getting short but I also wonder about narrow openings in the refer. Most look so narrow to where nothing wider than a milk carton would fit.
Also......please, only drawers on the lower cabinets. I have no idea what's on the lower shelves in the far back....it's been a decade since I was down there. I've admired the Chambers range, but I'm not into cleaning ovens anymore. I've gassed myself enough. |
It's 26 cubic feet, 16 in the fridge and 10 in the freezer.
The icemaker is at the very top, but all of the ice storage and delivery is in the door. All the shelves pull out on the fridge side and down below are only drawers. In the freezer baskets tilt out and I think the shelves slide, too. The door of the fridge has very wide shelves that are also designed to be simply lifted out and carried to the table, that's kind of neat. The only thing I could do without? They included a sport water bottle. Huh? We also have a large chest freezer out in the garage, 25 or 30 foot model, so we're never at a loss for freezer space. |
A big one!! Great! I'd have to give up my "pantry broom closet."
The water and ice are a dream. We have extremely mineral enriched well water. Guaranteed to plug a filter within a week or two. ( Did in a solar water pump in 3 days, LOL. ) susan |
Very cool Ron |
Susan,
We have the same problem here. So hubby added a filter on the water line before it enters the fridge. I believe the filter is supposed to last 3 yrs and we have had no problems, one year so far. If I use the regular tap water and fill a pot of water it looks like someone poured sand in there. So I only use the water to wash thing. If you leave a pot in the sink for at least an hour all of the sediment goes to the bottom... really kind of grosses me out. Even though we are supposed to have the best water around. |
Daisie...that is my stove!!! Susan, Ive never had a problem cleaning it...it really is a dream..if you look at the back right burner..thats a built in ''crock pot''...it is pretty cool, although the oven is small....cant do a super huge turkey...but other than that its great...
I want to say that rachaels fridge is a kitchenaide, but i havent been able to find it either....I wonder how much the cost of it would put brian into kaniptions....??? |
