One of the kitty girls decided to PLAY with Pippin! Crash jumped up on the living room chair and as Pippin walked by whacked him on the rump and then... nothing! Oblivious boy didn't even know she was trying to play with him! I was more excited about it then he was. Of course 5 minutes afterwards he suprised her under the table and she was back to being mad at him again... Oh well... it's progress!!! |

Thats AWESOME!!!! Seeing how our kitties will react to puppy when we get him or her is one of my BIGGEST concerns - I hope they come around. Keep telling us the good aspects of a kitty/puppy household!!!
A daschund ran up to Taylor ( my kitty) a couple days ago and Taylor growled at him, tried to swat him, and stood his ground. I'm afraid he won't understand that he's smaller than a big OES!! |
We got Zoey, a 2 2/2 mo old tortiseshell, almost 2 weeks ago.
We started out with the conservative methods recomended for introducing cats and dogs. Zoey was allowed to roam the house while the dogs were in their room. There are French doors to their room, so Zoey was ablke to see them. Then we closed her up in her room while the dogs were allowed to room the house. The next day, we put up the pet gate to keep them separated, but available for sniffing. By the afternoon, Zoey was jumping the gate to join the dogs. She has never been afraid of them and always had available high spaces to access. Riley, surprisingly, is her best bud. As the youngest OES, just turning two, she was the one that we were most concerned about with the kitten. When Riley is put in her room for meals (we've always separated the dogs for meals - habit from when they had different foods), Zoey stands there and cries until Riley is let back out. Riley apparently grooms Zoey as the kitten shows up wet at times. When I comb out the dogs, Zoey is usually laying beside them for comfort, I guess. Riley likes to herd Zoey, but Zoey doesn't seem to mind. And Zoey is starting to join in the Sheepie 500s - very fast cat. Zoey wants to go out when I let the dogs out to potty. But she is an inside cat and I am not letting her out (a shunk in a nearby housing addition tested postive for rabies this week). We now have the pet gate blocking the dogs from her room. We actually have the bottom of the gate up about 4 inches off the floor so she can run in, but the dogs can't get to the cat food or the poop treats. The dogs were introduced to my son's former girlfriend's cat two years ago and it was terrible. Evil cat. She would sit on her side of the pet gate and when the dogs would come up to smell her, she would reach through and claw them. Ben, a petite 110 lb Golden, was terrified of her. So far, Zoey hasn't used her claws on them. Even though the dogs have been great about not stepping on her, I still separate them when I leave. If she got hurt, I am sure it would ba an accident, but I want to prevent that. Take it slow and it should be fine. |
That is wonderful Karen
It will take time for them to become really comfortable with him....and just when they get comfortable he'll get bigger.... lol I hope the progress continues. Hurray for Kitty! |
Glad to hear there is progress....
Chipper still enjoys a love / hate relationship with our two cats- he always wants to play with them- they have different feelings... Tabi, the youngest cat, will pay more attention and entertain a little chase and fun with him more than our older one. When they are all "zonked" they do crash together, with some distance... It has been almost a month now, and there is progress (at times).... They are different breeds and are making themselves aware of their space and limitations... hopefully as time progresses, the love will be felt more!! Good luck! |
