Have you tried Amitriptalyne (sp)?
My sister has used that successfully for her psycho cat and her ever humping and chewing dog (allergies). Is Fletcher neutered? |
What would the Dog Whisperer do? I can't spell his first name this a.m.....more coffee!
He would walk your dog and daughter with you in control of the dog, collar high on the neck, leash with some slack, but not enough to let the dog get ahead of you. Then when this is going well, let your daughter walk him. This way the dog learns humans are higher ranked than he. When it is off leash time, you supervise and quickly reprimand the dog when he gets out of line. Yelling isn't the answer. You need to develop a quick reaction like a mother dog to a misbehaving puppy, quick-a sound-and a slight touch to the dog. Let your daughter feed him, but make the dog "earn" his meal by a sit and stay before going to the bowl. Let your daughter help you brush him. The more the dog is under command of your daughter, the less he will try to over lord her. Even a herding dog should be under command of a human.....you are the human, don't let the dog take the upper hand. Yes, it's cute to watch your dog herd your daughter, but it could be dangerous. Herding to protect her from danger is one thing, herding as normal behavior isn't. susan |
