If anybody can answer my questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks |

I live in Colorado, and we take our ole on long walks, he loves them and always comes when called. He even herds the other dog! He knows this is his"herd" and he won't let us get far. He loves to fetch. We bought one of those elongated tennis type ball toys and he's a fetchin' maniac. |
Our Gracie loves to be let off her leash to run...though she'll never run to far from us. If she does start getting a little to far away she (usually) comes when called. Since OES are such a stubborn breed, it just depends on what mood she's in All in all though, she likes to be around us more than running off.
I think the playing catch part just depends on the dog. We rescued Gracie when she was 4, bought her all kinds of toys and she still hasn't played with any of them! She definately isn't shy and I think that's true as a breed. OES are very fun-loving, happy-go-lucky dogs. They love to be around their uprights and be the center of attention. (Don't forget about that stubborn streak though ) Hope this helps ya Brent, CIndy , & Gracie |
Our Sebastian loves to run off if he sees other people/dogs that might potentially pet him. He LOVES to play with anyone that is willing! I don't think he would ever run off and not come back, though. He's been trained to run back for treats or for his very large tennis ball. The first day we brought him home (2 mos. old) we threw a tennis ball and he naturally retrieved it. NOW, he wants to play fetch with EVERYTHING - tennis balls, rawhide bones, rubber toys, wooden spoons - you name it! |
I would make sure that your oes understands the come command before letting it off the leash in a open and public place. My oes loves to play "catch me if you can" only because she is still in the early stages of learning her name and her commands. At 12 weeks she became a soccer finatic absolutely loves to kick the ball around and loves the be played with. Very stubborn streak running through her though. |
Of course it's just how you train your dog. If he knows the command come, he's going to love to be of leash on the beach. It's not the breed, it just how your dog is Aska knows heel, so most of the time she is of leash. Good luck |
I personally would not let my dog off leash where there is any car traffic - no matter how well you think they know the come command. Even the best trained dog can become confused or scared or go "convienently deaf" while off leash so I am always mindful of roads and traffic. The beach sounds perfect. Just beware, not all dogs can swim! |
