Too much energy!

I am looking for some advice on how to calm max down in the evening. When I get home from work we play outside for over an hour, running, and playing ball. (This is after he has been out all day too). After we come in he eats but then has so much energy and all he wants to do is play play play. If I try to do jobs around the house, he follows me around not letting me accomplish anything. Then later in the night we play on the floor with his balls and stuffed animals, by throwing them around or playing tug a war, but even after that he wont lay down. He will continue to jump on the couch and myself or nudge his toys at me until I play. Then if those don't work he whines. He is 9 months old now and was wondering if he will lose some of this energy or if anyone has any suggestions on games to play with him (whether intellectual or physical) to help relieve some of this energy!!

I hope this helps. Henry sometimes tries to get me to play when all he really wants is some undivided attention. Dogs are very literal, if they think undivided attention means play, they will try to initiate play to get your attention. So I try to make sure that we have regular quiet time where he gets my full attention. We do "smoochies." Henry sit or lies down next to me while I talk very softly to him, he gets slow calming tummy and body rubs and hugs. I do not let Henry initiate smoochies, he gets it as a reward for being well-behaved. He usually goes to sleep afterwards.
Shelly,

I would try and get Max to amuse himself - give him a good bone (my dogs love real beef marrow bones) that he can spend some time on. Use the "energy" to work on obedience (he'll get sick of that quickly and want to go lie down! LOL). or ....You could get him a playmate! :)

He will calm down (when he's around 10!)

Thanks Henry's Mom! I will try that as well. I have done that unintentually with lucy but lately she has become more "pesty" and I bet that is why. Maybe I haven't quite been giving her enough quite one on one time with out meaning too  . That makes perfect sense with her behavior lately...
While in Obedience School with Griffon ( 10 mos. old) I asked the instructor for suggestions regarding keeping our energetic & curious boy "occupied". She recommended that I buy several different Kong toys then stuff them with peanut butter and freeze them. This was a Godsend !!! Wish I had known about this when Patch was a baby.
Happy Easter <><
