Are they more aware then what we are?

Hi all,

Just wanting to ask how smart and knowing are our sheepies and how protective are they of you?

Years ago with our very first sheepie, Monty, he was such a docile and sweet boy, he lived for 12 years and in all his life he only ever wanted to lick you to death, lie all over you and cuddle.

Well when he was about 6 a girlfriend brought her new boyfriend around and he went straight for monty, BUT, monty would not let him near him, first time ever I had seen this behaviour, lips curled up bearing teeth and growling 8O Never ever in his life had he done that and never ever again did he do it! We had to put him away while they visited. My friend rang me and said what do you think of him and I did not say much, well she said he is no more, maybe the dog sensed something?

When we had peppa I was home alone one afternoon and there was a knock at the front door, opened it and there was a security door between me and the man outside, Peppa came flying up the stairs to the door as soon as I opened it and sat there in front of me and the security door doing the same thing, lips curled, teeth beared and growling. First and only time in her 14 years that she has ever done that too. The man asked if she would bite, I said probably and closed the door in his face, Peppa sat there the rest of the afternoon guarding the front door. 8O

Amazing both those incidents, and I think they sensed something and was protecting me from any danger.

Anyone else ever experienced something out of the ordinary with there sheepies behaviour? I am sure they know a lot more then us when it comes to a 6th sense!! 8)

Paige our now 11 year old Pyr has always been the typical livestock guardian dog (tho no livestock here anymore)....she sits back and watches. When people come ot the gate she watches them and how the other dogs interact with the person.

One day the meter reader climbed over the fence to read the meter. In the past he waited for me to open the gate, but this time he climbed before I could get there. In an instant Paige was up and running towards his butt ready to take a hunk. I called her off with just inches to spare.
I definitely think they are. Dancer has always reacted differently in different situations based on my own stress level or intuitive feelings, so I do wonder, do they sense things about other people or situations first, or do we without realizing it and the dog picks up on our own body language?
Daisy (the OES I grew up with) was the sweetest dog in the world. Would never hurt a fly!!! My neighbor, a very obnoxious little boy named Robert started arguing with me. I started screaming for him to get out of my yard. I guess I had said something about going inside and telling my Dad that he wouldn't go away. Daisy pushed her way past me when I opened the door. My Dad had run out after her because Daisy usually had a thing for running off if she got out. She ran over to Robert grabbed him by the elbow and escorted him to the property line, then released him and started barking like a mad woman. But this time, she had just one thing in mind. Protecting her little sis.... ME!!!
Daisy had never done anything like this before this or after this.
Dad and I were truly amazed by her behavior.
I think they are intuitive to their family's situations. My Suki used to curl up on my lap when I had cramps and just stay there like a hot water bottle! She and Loki would go nuts if someone tried to get too close to me when we were walking in the woods. Not anyone, just when they seemed to be a little shady.

I think they picked up on my level of fear or concern and reacted accordingly.
Many many years ago prior to hubby, Joe, I had an ex boyfriend that was very strange and he came toward me, that is the only time I have ever seen a sheepie with the lips up, hair on the back of the neck straight up and growling. I truly believe Winston would have ripped him apart if he hadn't left.

Sam growls at joggers when we are out walking. He definitely is the guard dog type. Lucky .... if they can die of dog spit and slobber inhalation maybe...
Beau was my big mammas boy and always watched out for me. If I was fine when others were around then he would relax. The one person he would not allow to be around me was my FIL, he would go right up and growl at him. One time Benny and I went to Phoenix and his mom stayed with the boys ( they were about a year old) and they adored her. She somehow set off the smoke alarm and called him to come turn it off, Beau wouldn't let him in the house 8O
I do believe they sense our feelings but also the feelings of the other person. We may be oblivious to danger, but if the other person is aggressive, the dog smells/sees/hears something we miss. My first Pyr male, Shane, was a natural guardian. I always felt safe with him beside me. I suspect this big fluffernut Jack is the same way. He's quick to give a tiny warnining growl when he doesn't like certain people walking down the road.
I believe that too, they definately pick up on someones character. Both incidents with me I was relaxed and had no idea but the dogs sensed something and I was not concerned till they displayed this behaviour.

Interesting too, here they have dogs being trained as companion dogs for severe epileptics. The dogs sense an impending epilipsy fit coming on hours before the fit occurs. So the person is prepared. Talk about an incredible 6th sense. Bit like natural disasters you hear dogs behaving strangely before an earthquake etc.

I really believe they can sense if a person is of good nature or not, just ask my girlfriend  He eventually hit her so they broke up, smart dog was my monty
Daisy is the moust protective of me.
SHE HAVE A BRAIN, Harry's is emty, and do just wath he want to do
 But I think they bouth will protect me if something come up :!:
Don't worry Tove, the girl will tell the boy what to do  We always do.
I firmly beleive they have a sixth sense about them and are usually good character judges.

Last year about this time we had new neighbors move in across the street. Beaureguard, who loves everybody he meets, doesn't like this new neighbor. He would always bark and growl when he saw him out in the yard. My other neighbor, the one who lives next door, asked me if I had noticed how Beau reacted to the new guy. So, it wasn't just me who picked up on his reaction.
