Debcram and I have looked high and low fort eh IL play date thread, but I think it was lost in the server crash a few weeks ago. All I remember is the date is Sunday, June 11 which is quickly approaching. I CAN'T WAIT. Someone please post the website again for the park in Libertyville. I wonder if they have picnic areas for us so we can pick up food. Please post information and if plan to be there. It will be so much fun! |

You're right! I found at least some of the thread: Quote: I've met fellow sheepie forum members around the country, but not from my own area . I would LOVE to meet all the forum members in a Chicago area gathering this year . WHO'S INTERESTED!!! Quote: Me!! Me!! and my sis and the obvious...Izzie. I am out in the Elgin area...but will travel if there is a sheepdog puppy named Fozzie involved. And one named Annie too. Amanda Quote: I'd come to get my sheepie fix. All sheepies need aunties! Hendrix is in the Glen Ellyn area..... Quote: I would love to come out and meet everyone, but I'd probably have to leave my naughty sheepie at home Quote: We do have SheepieFest! coming up the beginning of October, but should we plan a "doggie park" picnic before then? Quote: Sheepiefest is great in October, but I think we definitely need to have an off-leash event too. My doggie park doesn't have any restrictions (besides vaccinations and such) or fees...but it is also in St. Charles and far from just about everyone. Amanda Quote: There's a great doggie park/forest preserve in Libertyville on Milwaukee. I believe the fee is either $5 or $10 a day, but its a lovely park. I'm up by the Wisconsin border, but would travel to "hang with sheepie people" PS...could a little Border Collie girl join the group? Quote: PS...could a little Border Collie girl join the group? Quote: Of course...she has to put up with a sheepie on a daily basis so she deserves to party with them too!! Amanda Quote: Sheepiefest requires sheepies on leashes??? I would think most of the pups are more well behaved off leash. Those that are naughty (Annie and Walt) should be on leashes or close to home so they can be dropped off at home or wait in the car if they cause trouble. I'm not sure of dog parks between Elgin and BG. I do know there are HUGE parks in lake county but they do require some type of fee. However, that is just as far for the Elgin folks as the BG folks would be to Elgin. The only upsde to coming up towards BG, is that both Walt (Long Grove) and Annie (BG) can go home when they get antisocial. Several towns off of 355 may have dog parks, i.e. Arlington Hts, Schaumburg. Let me look into it soon and I'll let you know So if you want to meet them...I'm willing to go wherever. Quote: Sheepiefest is in a forest preserve that doesn't have an offleash area...hence the leashes. I would be willing to drive up north...Paula can carpool with us if she is willing. I think this might be the place Debcram was talking about: http://www.lcfpd.org/preserves/index.cf ... 853&type=P I am pretty sure there is something in Arlington heights....I will look into it too. Also...a lot of off leash dog area discourage dogs less than 4 months old. How old is the Foz? Amanda Quote: Yes, that is exactly the park I was talking about. And the "upright only" side of Indepence Park is absolutely beautiful!!! Sometimes, Tony and I leave the little ones (read dogs) at home, and just go there and enjoy it. I will be out of town from May 13 - May 24, so I hope you'll make this date in June...if not, perhaps another one! Quote: That must be it! I've never been there. I'll have to remember to get flea and tick stuff before we go. I've never used it on my dogs as we don't go to parks and forests...just suburban sidewalks Fozzie will be 4 months at the start of June. Quote: Do we want to pick a date? June 3? Personally I would choose a Saturday over a Sunday. How is June 3 for everyone? Amanda Quote: Do you think Fozzie will be okay at a dog park? Will he catch something? We go to the vet this Sat for his second vaccines. I'll ask when the next set should be. He'll probably need to wait until he has all the shots done. Quote: We waited until Izzie had all her shots to take her to our dogpark. When I am at the dog park however...I see seven and eight week old puppies. I am a rule follower...so if the signs say no dog under four months...I wouldn't bring my dog...the signs also say no children under a certain age and people still bring them. I would check with Fozzie's vet...better safe than sorry...we could also meet at someone's house who has a yard if they are willing to host. I live in a townhouse...so no yard. Amanda Quote: I don't think I can wait til SheepieFest! 2006 in October to see everyone and their sheepies. Just tell me where and when and I'll be there. I'll drive anywhere. (Amanda, June 3 works for me). Quote: I would love to meet all the sheepies at a dog park. The one in Libertyville is nice as the one in Lake Forest on Waukegan Rd. June 3rd. sounds like a good day to have some sheepie fun. Is that the date that will be set? The dog parks in Lake County cost $10.00 a day but they are well worth the money. We have loads of fun with Winston when we take him to the dog park in Lake Forest on Waukegan Rd. He plays and plays with all the other dogs. Well, is June 3rd fine with everyone? Quote: I'm not available the weekend of June 3. My sister in law's wedding and other fesitivites are that weekend. We'll be out in the Aurora area the entire weekend, but I hope I can find someone to watch the pups at our house. Is there another date that works for everyone. Sundays work best for us as Steve is taking a class which meets all day every Saturday. I'll need him to help me with Annie and the Little Turkey! Quote: How about Sunday, June 11? Does that work for everyone? Amanda Quote: Stacy...that picture of the two dogs is adorable! I can't wait to meet them! Quote: June 11th. on a Sunday sounds good to me. Quote: It's a date!!! June 11th it is. I CAN'T WAIT! If anyone wants to come play sooner, PM me. We seem to be home a lot lately! Quote: Have we decided where? What time? Quote: June 11 Independence Grove Dog Exercise area Do we want to meet morning or afternoon? Is there an area to picnic near the off leash area? Amanda Quote: I'm in. Is this the park in Libertyville???? Quote: Paula O. wrote:I'm in. Is this the park in Libertyville???? Quote: Yes. Amanda Quote: Walter regrets that he is too naughty to come to this event, but assures you all that he will be there in spirit nipping at all the puppies. Quote: Poor lil Walty Quote: Is Walt really that naughty? Maybe your parents can stop by with him??? Quote: Oh well, just found out that I cannot make it on June 11th. But everyone have fun. Quote: June 11th is marked on my calendar. All dogs welcome! Quote: woof, woof, (pant, pant) Pirate arf, arf, arf Keira (Translation: Wowie! A party, we'll be there!! Can't wait to see everyone, especially Auntie Paula!!!) Quote: Hi everyone! We might be moving to a new house (in Libertyville!) around that time, but I would love to come and see all the sheepies romping. I don't think I will bring Oscar though. With him being deaf, I don't like to take him to those big open areas off-leash. It's waaaaaay to easy for him to ignore me by simply not looking at me, and recall is a problem if he runs out of my sight. But count Oscar in for Sheepiefest in October! Quote: Wow Laurie! You're moving!!! Congrats!!! Quote: Hi Deborah! Yup, we're moving. Anyone want to buy a house (hee hee)?????? Quote: Oscar's Mom wrote:Hi everyone! Quote: I finally get to meet you! Would you consider bringing Oscar on a leash? I'm sure Fozzie will need to be on a leash as he'll only be 4 months at that time. I doubt he'll behave off leash. Maybe the park has an enclosure. I'll check out the website soon. |
Ron to the rescue again!! |
Ron! You are the best!!! |
Anyone coming? I do hope so as I'm very excited! |
We'll be there...what time had we decided?
Amanda |
We'd like to be there. Just need to know the time! |
Hi all... This morning Pirate and Keira were standing by the door, looking out. Pirate was holding a water bottle, and Keira, her tennis ball. I asked them what they were doing, and they said, we're going to the park in Libertyville with our friends today! I said no, no! We're going Sunday. That's 2 days from now. And Pirate asked: WHAT TIME SUNDAY????????????????????????? I said, good question, big guy!!! So.............................. WHAT TIME SUNDAY??????????????????????? |
Deborah, you need to get Pirate and Kiera a calendar. The play date is a WEEK from Sunday (unless the date has been changed and I'm a dope). |
 I'm so embarressed!!!! Darn! I don't think we will be able to go I will still try...ah, what time. Poor Pirate and Keira...they are so excited about going THIS week. Paula...how was your birthday and vacation ??????? |
Deborah, you better be there. I need to see you and Baby P. and Kiera!
Vacation and birthday were good. I could use another week off to recuperate. My birthday dinner was a sausage and mushroom pizza--yes, I ate the whole thing! And 3 mini cupcakes for dessert. I fully enjoyed it. |
I think the time we said before was 2pm. Does that work for everyone?
Amanda |
Yes, Deb you must be there! For some reason I had 11am in my head, but I may have just made that up. I left the whole day open. I wonder if we should go earlier in the day in case it gets really hot out. Also, where should we meet? I looked at the map of the park and it seems there are a few possible places. I CAN'T WAIT! |
11am is fine for us. Should we plan on picniking then?
Amanda |
The only reason I'm questioning being there, is that the night before, we're going to Wisc to see Jimmy Buffet!!! Who KNOWS what shape we'll be in. But...I swear...we will be there...with parrots on!!! |
11 or 2? I don't really care, just let me know! |
I just realized I might not be at the get-together. I talk to the vet on Wednesday to report Bob's progress and if she gives me the thumbs up, I will be able to ride him this weekend |
That is great news!!! Why don't ya ride him to Libertyville |
MAYBE if we left now we could make it to Libertyville by Sunday Can I use my IPASS with him? But Bob doesn't cross county lines. Plus he'd have a heart attack since he's been living a relatively sheltered life. |
Paula
Where are all of our Illinois members? PLEASE COME TO PLAY! |
Needed to add notification of replies. |
What is the final roll call for Sunday?
Me, Izzie and Melissa (my sis) Stacy, Annie and the Foz-man Debcram, Pirate and Kiera Paula O. (in spirit only) Anyone else? Amanda |
My daughter will be home from college, so she will be coming, too... oh, and of course, Mr. Deborah...( ) Tony will be there! He'll be the one with the cigar! (No, he won't really smoke in front of everyone!) |
and Steve!
What time did we decide? |
I've heard 11 and I've heard 1...so why don't we make it noon!!!!! To bad there isn't a dog friendly restaurant near there, we could take the puppers out to lunch |
Is there a picnic table area to eat at? We could all bring our own lunches. Where specifically at the park do we want to meet?
Amanda |
I've never been there, just driven by. But we could all meet in the parking lot on Milwaukee Ave. I'm sure we'll all recognize each other, but the sheepdogs that are dragging us around Oh...did we agree on noon? |
Noon is good.
Amanda |
See you at noon in the parking lot! I can't wait!!! |
Hello everyone!
I am going to try and come on Sunday to see all the sheepies, but I'm still not sure about bringing Oscar. He is currently taking steroids for IBD, and I am concerned about bringing him to a dog park at all as he will be exposed to all sorts of things while being immuno-compromised. I know everyone here on the forum takes good care of their dogs, but I'm worried about all of the random folks that may not be as diligent about their dog's health. Still mentally debating........hope to see you all there! (Paula, you will be missed....) |
Laurie, I'm so excited to meet you! I've heard such wonderful things about you and your family. For those of you who are wondering Laurie's neighbor is a coworker of mine. I understand if you can't bring Oscar with you as we don't want him to get sick. Maybe he can make a brief appearance? I think we'll take two cars to the park so that Steve can head back home with Annie if necessary. Foz has had all his shots and I'll be putting some flea/tick protection on both of them the night before. I don't think he'll wander very far as he always keeps us in his sight. I'm so excited for him to play with other sheepies. He seems to play very well with other dogs and enjoys running after them or herding them. His herding instinct seems to be very strong at the moment. It was kind of funny when he herded my neighbor's dog into the bushes |
Laurie is a great person! And, Laurie, I'm glad you are going to make it. I met her and her husband at SheepieFest!2. They brought the most wonderful foods! Can't wait to see you. |
See everyone tomorrow!!! |
