Randi,
When you say constantly, do you really mean constantly? Is there something the dog is barking at? Or when he or she is crated? |
Elissa...
Can you come over today? It's sunday. Come over about 2? Randi |
Sorry Hun,
Got a B-day party to be at in OC at 5pm. How about tomorrow? I have no plans. |
Tomorrow late afternoon? I get to go to the Spa tomorrow |
Bring your BIG dogs! We have enough room for 4 dogs |
Sounds good! My hubby owes, me so I be leaving Ryan with him...
Rags & Pepsi will be so excited to see baby versions of themselves. I am of course the most excited!! Yay...finally getting my puppy fix!!! What time is good for you? |
How about 3? |
Sounds great!!! See ya at 3! |
YAY!! I get a BIG dog fix!! |
Randi, your puppies are ADORABLE! I haven't been around for a while so I didn't realize you had 2! Too cute!
Sue |
Thanks Sue! They are a handful! They gained 7 pounds in 3 weeks. They are now 4 months old and Maxx weighs 32 pounds and Sammi is 31.8 pounds. I think they are going to be monstors!

Back to your question...when are they barking? At things that move, or noises, or to play with each other.
I guess you just have tire them out so they sleep during the worst barking time of day. If they bark when you leave, try ignoring them, leave some chews for them to disstract them. Keep them indoors, if they bark at things they can or not see...while in the back yard. Teach them to be quiet, try a shaker can, or simply acknoweldge the barking, and then say good girl now quiet. We got tired of that, and now tap on the window...Remy knows that sound is conected to her barking. She only barks at dogs, nothing else. What drives me crazy is someone walks their dog every morning at 6:30 am, and she's been sleeping outside lately. Hopefully it gets better. |
Mine didn't start their barking habit til they were older, and it has gotten especially bad since February when all of them were in heat. Seems the excitement at the time, the bit of territorial-ness we saw, developed into a horrible habit. I've tried a can with pennies, and saying a firm no, ignoring them etc... nothing works. Sky is the worst, her bark is SO loud and peircing now.
I don't have any advice for you, but I hope you solve it now before they get older! For your sanity's sake! I just hope I can get them to tone it down now that the hot weather is here and windows are open or else my dogs are going to drive my neighbors batty as well as myself. |
He barks at me when I get up in the morning, when I go out to get their dog bowls, when I come home at night, he barks at the cat, he barks at the other puppy Sammi, he stands on the jacuzzi top and barks, we put them in the cage at night, he barks barks and barks. So much sometimes I put them outside and he barks too.
Perhaps it's all normal for puppies to bark like this but I've never had a male puppy. He definalty is the jealous one when it comes to attention. He has to have attention too if Sammi is getting some. And he barks at Sammi because she is getting attention at that moment and he isn't. He pushes his way in. Sometimes it's almost like he's yelling at me, trying to tell me something but I'll be darned if I can figure out what he's saying. He's also the big baby lap dog. Maybe the rocks in a can would work when he's barking. Odds are he'd bark at the can too..lol. I put treats in their cage at night, even the rawhide strips to keep his mouth busy. It works up to a point. I acknowledge him and tell him to be quiet, but he keeps barking at me. Hopefully he will shuddup soon Randi |
Can you exercise him more than the other? He sounds quite dominant, and bossy.
Are you working with them as individuals? Is the crate open wire or closed plastic? If he barks in the cage, I had success with spraying water...with all but one dog...he LOVED it..LOL. But he didn't like sharp noises, so I used the shake can with pennies in it. I also use the word ENOUGH. You can cover the kennel so they can't see out if barking, off if quiet. I often make them be alone, they can hear us in the house, and can quickly curb the barking if they do it to get attention. They only come out if I invite them out...I don't come when they bark...unless I know they need to go pee. Honestly he sounds bored, and wants everyone to pay attention to him. I have many treats that I throw outside and make them go hunting...rollover is great because they love the smell. I have the Kong, Holey treat ball which I stuff full, and another that they have to roll around to get kibble out of. I also buy raw bones from the grocery store, freeze them and when I know I am gone all day they get one. I would focus on mental training too, sit, lay down, sit, lay down treat...puppy push ups. Some dogs thrive with doggy daycare...if she is okay...send him out to daycare, and spend one on one time with her. He will come home so tired, he won't care what is going on around him. Good luck, I know how annoying a barking dog is, I hope I helped. |
I went over to Randi's today with Rags & Pepsi.
Sammi & Max should be really tired this evening! They all played a lot. It was so nice of Randi to invite us over. Pepsi and Rags are passed out right now. They really enjoyed the puppies. I think the puppies enjoyed playing with them too... Even though Rags slobbered all over them Most of all I enjoyed seeing the puppies. I GOT MY PUPPY FIX!!! They were SOOOOO cute and had such soft coats. Thanks again Randi |

Sounds fun! Ummm. . . . begs the question. . . Pictures??? |
Of course there are pictures.... Thanks to Randi. Dopey me, forgot my camera. I forgot during the drama of getting Hayley and the dogs to the car. She e-mailed me a bunch and I am uploading them now. |
Thanks for the advice! I will get a can of rocks to shake at him and tell him NO! After talking with Elissa and reading some of the posts, and watching the dogs play yesterday, I've figured out he needs more attention than Sammi does. He barked at me petting Sammi when I got home from work. I only have 2 hands! The cage is wire and built for a huge sheepdog, which they aren't yet. If one isn't in there, the other whines or barks. I put treats and chewy things in there at night. I'll try the frozen bones. I know they are getting their new teeth so that will help with that part. I think I need to put more toys in the cage. Maxx seems to have more energy than Sammi. I'll find something to keep his jaws moving
Thanks for the input Randi |
All the dogs were hilarious yesterday! I was glad to be able to see a BIG dog. Pepsi and Rags are so cute!! They were so good with the puppies too I thought for sure Rags was going over the fence and up that tree to get the cat! LOL! The cat finally came back after it got dark. He has to sneak in and out so the pups don't see him and BARK. The vet said that maybe the cat is loosing his hair in clumps because of puppy stress! HAHA! Poor Kikki. We'll all survive this |
