Cat food question-Which food do you feed your cats?

Sorry to steer off the topic of our sheepies, but I have a question for the cat owners out there:

Which food do you feed your cats? I am looking for a good-quality dry food for my two indoor adults. I've been reading labels and looking at ingredients until my head is about fried - but I am no closer to getting anything! When they were little they thrived on Science Diet, but I see the ingredients usually have some sort of by-product right off the start! Isn't that supposed to be a bad thing? :?

Thanks for the help!!

I fed my cats Iams all the years I raised Siamese, Burmese, and Tonkinese. They all did great on it. I've fed a few different foods over the years but always come back to Iams. It used to be the most expensive food out there, now it is a medium priced food, and maybe not considered super premium anymore, but I have no problems with it.
Right now we are feeding our cat Royal Canin and Wellness - and they are doing well on it.

Jennifer, Baxter, Cassiopia and Sharkey
Ainsley & Einstein are on Pro Plan Indoor Formula (Salmon - I think). They do very well on it. Although, Eins needs to go on a diet.
My first Cat, Murray was on Iams and Science Diet and lost most of his teeth by age 4. 8O
My cat Tiger (that my Ex has) is on Purina Special Care, Urinary Tract formula. He had crystals in his urine. So we switched him from whatever he was on to that. He has done very well on it. But we really did not many choices. Especially after my bad experiences with IAMs and Science Diet I refused to put him on that. So he has to be on this as a preventative for 6 years now. He has never had the crystals come back. He is doing wonderfully and is now 10 yrs old.
My cats had no health problems for 13+ years on Science Diet dry catfood. At 14, my sweet angel Chia died suddenly of VAS (cancer) and Miles developed Kidney failure. Now Miles is so finicky that he gets to each whatever he wants, which is mostly fancy feast or science diet savory cuts.
Our cats are on Purina Special Care, Urinary Tract formula. Our male cat had crystals in his urine, so the others are dragged along into this food. I think we're also going to add a bit of hairball preventative food for the other cat...sounds yummy!
Midnight and Tabi are both on Iams-Mutli Cat formula and do very well on it. We are consistently complimented on thier shiny coats and the vet always comments on what good teeth they both have....
We feed the cats Nutro with hairball and indoor formula...less fat then outdoor, for less active.

Both have great body size, have done very well on it. Both recently had their check-ups...I will be switching to senior cat next for both.

If you have a male they reccommend including soft food into the diet, so they avoid urinary tract problems and crystals...very common in males.

Our female will not eat any soft food, not even human food...she has very very bad teeth. Our male has had milk every single day of his life about 2 ounces in the am, and has tuna, salmon, chicken, beef...whatever meat we are eating at supper...his teeth are perfect. White and no tartar or stains.

They both exactly the same dry cat food.

If I could I would feed them even better than Nutro, something like Royal Canin, or Precise holistic...

yes by-products listed as first ingredients is bad, it could mean anything from feathers and beaks to the saw dust off the floor, road kill...instead of using real chicken meat.
