She also got an Intervectin (I'm killing the spelling on this word) for heartworm treatment. The vet was nice and didn't charge us for this, so the spelling isn't on the bill (which means I can't google it since I can't spell, lol). Anyway, how long does it usually last? Is this monthly too? I've always used Heartguard Plus with Jasper and he gets that monthly. Last time he went, we got him a year supply of it. She apparently doesn't sell it anymore... Anyone know the cheapest online site to get it from? lol I meant to ask the receptionist the Intervectin, but a not so nice German Shepherd came in without a muzzle. He was barking, snapping, and growling at my crew LOUDLY. I was in a hurry to get out of there before a fight broke out. Joy also got a 3 year rabies vaccine - I like that! Jasper will be getting it next year. It's cheap too - worked out to $10/yr instead of $15/yr. Jasper went with us to the vet, and she just had to weigh him - lol He was 78 pounds. He's well over half my weight now. She went ahead and did a quick exam on him too - checking to see if his glands were swollen since Joy has kennel cough, checked his ears, etc... and everything looked great. She just kept going on and on about how perfect he was. He's only had to see her a few times for shots, but he's a favorite of hers. She even took his picture to put on their website and bulletin board. So both my babies had good checkups. |

Yay for the good checkups!!!
It's "Ivermectin" and it's the generic medicine name for what is in Heartguard. Heartguard plus has another medicin in it to control a couple of other worms too. Yes, it's monthly. |

I searched it and found this: "Again, the breeds considered at high risk for ivermectin toxicity are collies, Shetland sheepdogs, Australian shepherds, and Old English sheepdogs. Not every individual dog from these breeds is sensitive to ivermectin. It is possible to test an individual using a low dose of ivermectin." Yikes...guess Jasper is okay though since he's been on heartguard his entire life. I think we'll still switch Joy over to Heartguard Plus after this month just to make things a little easier. |

So both my babies had good checkups. How cool that Jasper is one of her favorites! Glad to hear that Joy will be ok in a few days. Also that Jasper doesn't have Kennel Cough. Where I go the price is the same for 1 or 3 yr Rabies shots. But we can buy a 3 yr license. It's $8 for one year, but only $16 for a 3 year. Definitely cheaper to get the 3 year. |
