You are correct Arthur, markings, as to wether they have an all white head or patches is irrelevant!! Structure and soundness is what is important.
An oes with a large capacious head, good pigmentation, wall eye or brown eyes, nice length of neck, correct angulation of the front and rear legs, good lay of shoulders, good quality and texture to the coat, nice topline, strong truncated muzzle with correct bite, compact body with enough leg under them, sound movement with good side extension and so on and so on is what makes an oes an OES!! Not wether they have a white head or not |
As lisaoes said, the coloring doesn't matter, as long as it is any shade or grizzle, grey, blue, or merle with or without white or in reverse.
However, it has been proven unhealthy to breed for more white, especially an all white head, as it results in more cases of deafness and blindness. |
Here is a link to the guidelines that the US follows for the breed standard:
http://www.oldenglishsheepdogclubofamer ... efault.htm On that page you will see the winner of the US National Specialty Old English Dog Show last year who has a patch on her ear. |
It's my understanding that the more white a sheepie has, the greater the concern for deafness or blindness. |
Thanks I will post it to all my Chinese friends and forum:)
This is a famous forum in BeiJing of China.Almost all oes breeders join it. If you have interest ,you can view it .Though the language is Chinese ,but I think you can find a lot photoes. |
